The Opportunity: We have an immediate opening for a regular full-time Senior Renewables Planner to primarily focus on solar, wind, transmission, geothermal, and energy storage land use and permitting projects. This position would work a hybrid in-office schedule based out of any of our Arizona offices in downtown Tempe, Flagstaff, or downtown Tucson; Salt Lake City, Utah; or our downtown Fort Collins, Colorado office. Candidates living in the Denver area may also be considered. Your Key Responsibilities: • Manage client relationships, environmental and renewable permitting and entitlement, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), development review, land use code development, and educational outreach on private and public lands and communities throughout Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming and other western states., • Act as Project Manager and subject matter expert for multi-disciplinary solar and renewable energy applications to federal, state, and local governments, or reviewing applications on their behalf. This includes coordinating, preparing, and performing quality control reviews on county-level Conditional Use and 1041 (in Colorado) applications, state-level approvals such as Certificates of Public Convenience and Necessity or Certificates of Environmental Compatibility, or federal Right-of-Way applications., • Manage, prepare, and review siting/constraints analysis, environmental field surveys, FAA coordination, and technical studies or plans supporting renewable land use applications (i.e., visual impact analyses, reclamation and decommissioning plans, cultural reports, etc.)., • Write existing condition reports, local ordinances, and NEPA documents., • Independently organize, facilitate, and conduct agency meetings, public involvement activities and public hearings, such as contributing to Environmental Species Act Section 7 consultation., • Assist in leading and supervising the renewables practice in developing scopes of work, budgets, and proposals and business development activities., • Occasional out-of-state travel to visit project sites and attend public outreach events should be anticipated. What Youll Bring: • Masters degree in Biology, Community Planning, Law, Anthropology, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Studies, or closely related field; or, a Bachelors degree plus additional years of experience in lieu of a Masters degree., • 10+ years of related experience in a consulting or agency setting., • Proven technical expertise in preparing land use applications and/or NEPA analyses for solar and renewable energy projects., • Strong writing skills associated with land use, zoning, or NEPA., • Strong understanding of siting, resource issues and constraints as they relate to renewable projects., • Subject matter expertise certification required (i.e., Certified Environmental Professional, American Institute of Certified Planners, Certified Wildlife Biologist, etc.), • Ability to write and/or interpret new land use regulations and keep on top of evolving regulations., • Excellent written/verbal communication, with strong interpersonal skills., • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and quality control a must!, • Ability to synthesize and present complex ideas through text and graphics., • Ability to multitask and be able to adjust to daily changes in priorities to meet deadlines., • Desire to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment., • Self-starters with an eye for detail, a dedication to accuracy, and a passion for incorporating best practices and more importantly identifying and testing new planning ideas, practices, and technologies, are encouraged to apply., • Possess a valid drivers license and a clean driving record.
