Job DescriptionJob Title: Sanitation Associate Job Description The Sanitation Associate maintains all plant surfaces, equipment, and common areas in a clean and sanitary condition throughout the shift in a food manufacturing environment. This role follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) under the guidance of the Sanitation and Quality Assurance teams to support food safety, USDA requirements, allergen control, and product traceability. The position requires safe and proper use of cleaning chemicals, strict adherence to safety protocols, and timely reporting of any issues that could affect food safety or equipment performance. Responsibilities • Execute GMP and SSOP procedures consistently to meet internal and USDA pre-operational sanitation standards., • Use, store, and secure cleaning chemicals properly, following all safety and handling guidelines., • Follow Lock-out/Tag-out and Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) safety procedures when cleaning and working around equipment., • Complete sanitation logs, cleaning schedules, and pest control records accurately and on time according to Quality Assurance guidelines., • Prevent cross-contamination by following proper cleaning sequences, tool segregation, and allergen control procedures., • Take measures to prevent water damage by managing overspray, drainage, and water usage appropriately., • Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, trash areas, and other common spaces to maintain a hygienic facility., • Clean and sanitize production equipment, floors, walls, and other plant surfaces using appropriate tools and methods., • Lead by example in following uniform, hygiene, PPE, and safety compliance requirements at all times., • Assist with water conservation efforts by using equipment efficiently and minimizing unnecessary water use., • Help prepare equipment and areas for production after sanitation, ensuring they are ready for inspection and operation., • Report equipment malfunctions, missing parts, or unsafe conditions promptly to supervision or maintenance., • Read and complete sanitation records and cleaning schedules as directed by Quality Assurance., • Adapt to shift changes or task reassignments as needed to support production and sanitation priorities., • Identify and report safety concerns quickly, and participate in maintaining a safe work environment., • Make sound decisions during cleaning tasks, manage time effectively, and use sanitation equipment correctly., • Read and interpret safety instructions, procedure documents, and sanitation guidelines in English.Essential Skills, • Basic Food Handler certification., • Knowledge of food processing and food safety principles., • Experience working with cleaning equipment and sanitation chemicals in a production or similar environment., • Experience working closely with food or in a food manufacturing setting., • Ability to lift 30–40 lbs and perform frequent physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and carrying., • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs continuously, 40 lbs frequently, and exert up to 50 lbs occasionally., • Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently throughout an overnight shift., • Ability to use hands and arms continuously for handling, reaching, and operating sanitation tools., • Ability to climb and balance continuously, and to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl frequently., • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to communicate clearly., • Reliable and flexible, with the ability to work independently and follow instructions., • Excellent attendance and a strong customer service mindset toward internal partners., • Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment., • Ability to read and complete sanitation records, cleaning schedules, and safety documents in English.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Previous experience in janitorial, general labor, or sanitation roles, especially in food manufacturing., • Familiarity with GMP guidelines and SSOP processes in a food production facility., • Understanding of USDA pre-operational sanitation expectations and documentation., • Knowledge of Lock-out/Tag-out and Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) safety practices., • Ability to work effectively with pest control procedures and documentation., • Ability to manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks during an overnight shift., • Ability to use sanitation equipment effectively, including high-pressure hoses and cleaning tools., • Spanish language skills are a plus for reading and understanding safety and procedure documents.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a food manufacturing facility operating on an overnight shift from approximately 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. The environment includes exposure to a range of temperatures from about 35°ree;F to 85°ree;F, with frequent contact with water, sanitation chemicals, and high-pressure hoses, including sanitation water up to approximately 150°ree;F. You will work near moving mechanical parts, experience frequent vibration and moderate noise, and encounter various food-related smells and wet floors. The position requires continuous standing and walking, frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, as well as regular lifting and carrying of materials. Proper GMP personal protective equipment (PPE), including smocks, hair nets, and other required items, must be worn at all times, and jewelry or makeup is not permitted in production and sanitation areas. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Irvine, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
