Job Description Hydro-Vac Construction Operations Manager We are seeking an experienced Construction Hydrovac Operations Manager to oversee, direct, and manage FPS Civil’s hydro-vac division. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant hydro-vac excavation operations while leading crews, maintaining equipment, coordinating schedules, and supporting project execution across Arizona. The Construction Hydrovac Operations Manager plays a critical leadership role in maintaining operational excellence, protecting FPS Civil’s safety culture, and supporting our underground utility and heavy civil projects. Essential Job Functions: Oversee daily Construction Hydrovac operations including crew scheduling, dispatch coordination, and equipment utilization. Supervises and supports Hydro-Vac CDL Operators and field personnel to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements. Ensures all excavation activities comply with OSHA regulations, trench safety standards, 811 utility locate requirements, and FPS Civil safety policies. Works in and around active construction sites, open trenches, and heavy equipment environments while maintaining oversight of safe operations. Coordinates hydro-vac activities with Project Managers, Superintendents, municipal representatives, and clients to support project timelines and avoid conflicts. Monitors equipment condition and ensure preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and repairs are completed in a timely manner. Minimizes equipment downtime through proactive planning and coordination with fleet and maintenance personnel. Reviews and monitors work tickets, driver logs, and operational documentation for accuracy and compliance. Conducts regular safety meetings, jobsite audits, and operator training sessions. Investigates incidents, identifies root causes, and implements corrective action plans as necessary. Tracks operational performance include utilization rates, productivity, labor efficiency, and operational costs. Assists in budgeting, forecasting equipment needs, and evaluating capital expenditures for hydro-vac assets. Maintains strong communication channels between field crews, management, and clients. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors or Executive Management. Requirements: Minimum 5 years of experience in CONSTRUCTION hydro-vac excavation, underground utility work, or related heavy civil construction. Minimum 2 years of construction supervisory or management experience Strong working knowledge of hydro-vac equipment operations, excavation safety procedures, and DOT compliance requirements. Proven leadership experience. Valid Class A CDL license (with tanker endorsement) and acceptable driving record. Must be able to pass a drug test (including random testing). Must be able to pass background checks and obtain security clearance/badging as necessary to work at high-security job site locations throughout Arizona. Trench safety, competent person, and confined space training required. At a minimum OSHA 10-hour, 30-hour training preferred. Work Environment / Physical Demands: Minimum 45 to 50 hours per week; additional hours as required based on operational demands. Weekend and night work required depending on job requirements. Significant time spent on active construction sites. Working outdoors in inclement climate. Must be able to meet all safety requirements and adhere to applicable safety policies. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, steel toe boots, seat belt, gloves, face masks, fall protection, etc. Acceptable level of correctable vision for Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral and Depth Perception. Hearing must be sufficient for being aware of back-up alarms and for normal conversations around loud heavy machinery. Use of both arms and legs required. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more, climb, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods under adverse field conditions.
