Position Summary: The Greenway Operations Supervisor is responsible for performing greenway operations, maintenance, and conservation efforts throughout the jurisdiction of Great Rivers Greenway and will focus mainly on the Brickline Greenway in St. Louis City. This position will work closely with municipal and county agencies, landscape contractors, partner programs and volunteers in park and greenway maintenance. This position will also be responsible for leading maintenance and conservation-based training and educational programs for staff, partners, and volunteers. This position operates from a field office and works independently. The Greenway Operations Supervisor will report to the Greenway Operations Manager. The starting range for this salary-exempt position is $66,000 - $71,000 annually and may be higher depending on relevant qualifications and experience. Essential Job Functions: • Maintain a high standard of care for all elements of the Brickline Greenway in the City of St. Louis with an emphasis on delivering an exceptional user experience across various neighborhoods, cultural institutions, parks, areas of civic pride and transportation corridors., • Evaluates the greenways for compliance with existing Operations and Maintenance or license agreements among a variety of public and private maintenance partners., • Supervises contractors who perform daily maintenance activities on greenways (i.e. landscape maintenance, graffiti removal, irrigation, security, trash removal, electrical, mechanical, technology, etc.). Contractors are primarily landscapers and other trades., • Leads and motivates a team of seasonal and volunteer staff., • Leads operations and maintenance training and education programs for the public, staff, partners, and volunteers. Disseminates information about the greenways and acts as a Great Rivers Greenway ambassador., • Works to support the greenway operations manager with development and implementation of greenway maintenance management plans., • Supports staff in planning and executing capital repair and replacement projects., • Works with operations team to develop department budgets and operates within those financial constraints., • Leads and assists in the procurement of goods and services adhering to Great Rivers Greenways Procurement Policy., • Updates and maintains the Geographic Information System (GIS) based asset inventory using mobile phones and tablets through work order and asset additions., • Responsible for care of district maintenance equipment and tools., • Responsible for maintenance and care of the organization’s facilities including maintenance facilities, grounds and vacant properties., • On occasion, may work with staff to implement the organization’s technology or conservation management plans in the field with staff, partners and volunteers. Education, Licenses, and Certifications: • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation management, horticulture, landscape maintenance, or natural resources management preferred. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree., • Must possess a valid driver’s license, maintain active automobile insurance, and have a satisfactory driving record. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle is required., • Possess or ability to possess pesticide applicators license within 6 months of employment, • Possess or ability to become a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI). Experience: • Minimum of five (5) years of increased responsibility primarily related to work in park operations or landscape/hardscape maintenance., • Strong knowledge of horticultural practices including plant identification, care, maintenance, irrigation, plant selection, insect and disease diagnosis and treatment options; strong knowledge of native landscapes including cultural practices is required., • Knowledge of basic construction, hardscape, trail/roadway maintenance and repair, carpentry, mechanical, drainage, irrigation, and stormwater management highly preferred., • Familiarity and experience planning seasonal and annual work tasks associated with park operations and landscape management. Skills and Abilities: • Self-directed, requiring minimal supervision., • Familiar with governmental procurement and contracting procedures a plus., • Ability to read and understand construction documents/blueprints., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills., • Ability to coordinate a variety of unrelated functions and handle multiple projects concurrently., • Team-oriented with a commitment to sustaining strong, productive working partnerships with all staff members, board members, partner organizations, consultants, contractors, volunteers and the community at large. Technical Skills: • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)., • Experience with desktop and mobile GIS mapping applications., • Experience with various electronic controls, i.e. gate/door access, alarms, irrigation controllers, light controllers, etc., • Ability to learn software applications as necessary. Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids: • PC, tablets and associated software, commercial printer, telephone, copier., • Pickup trucks, utility vehicles, trailers., • Truck or trailer mounted water and chemical applicators, backpack sprayers., • String trimmers, chainsaws, pole pruners, hedge pruners, hand saws, shears., • Various hand operated and power tools. Work Environment: • Typical office to field work ratio is 30% office and 70% field work., • Outdoors during all seasons under various weather conditions., • Operating in a variety of environments and scenarios requiring personal protective equipment including high visibility over-clothes, eye, hearing and head protection., • Maintenance facility with potential exposure to loud noise, fumes, chemicals, moving mechanical parts or airborne particles and other related risks. Physical Requirements: • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varied weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, wind, and rain., • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for prolonged periods while performing field inspections, site coordination, and operational tasks., • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance., • Ability to operate and ride in vehicles, including pickup trucks, utility vehicles, and trailers., • Ability to use hand and power tools, equipment controls, mobile devices, and computer systems safely and effectively., • Ability to reach above shoulder level and work at ground level as required., • Ability to visually inspect sites, equipment, and work areas, including reading maps, plans, and digital screens., • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or emergency response situations as needed.
