Job Description Financial Controller Sprecher Brewing Co., founded in 1985, is a pioneer in the craft beverage industry and the oldest craft brewery in Milwaukee. As we grow, we are looking for an experienced Controller to join our team in Glendale, Wisconsin. CPA preferred. Job Description The Controller is a key leader within the Finance team, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations and partnering closely with the CFO to drive financial strategy, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making. This role ensures the integrity of financial reporting, enhances internal controls, and drives cross-functional initiatives that support growth and profitability. The ideal candidate is both detail-oriented and strategic, with proven experience in manufacturing or the beverage/CPG industries. Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Partnership with CFO • Collaborate with the CFO to develop and execute financial strategies that align with the company’s long-term goals., • Provide insight and support in capital planning, financial modeling, and scenario analysis., • Assist in preparing Board/investor reporting and presenting financial results to stakeholders., • Support M&A due diligence, debt compliance, and external audits as needed. 2. Financial Reporting & Compliance • Own and drive the end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual close process. Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements., • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to prepare & validate necessary information for closing entries. for e.g. Inventory adjustments, Payroll, Commissions, Month end accruals etc., • Responsible for the accuracy and completion of the federal, state, and local tax requirements such as sales tax reports, personal property tax returns, and income tax returns., • Develop and maintain internal financial policies, procedures, and controls. 3. Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis • Lead the annual budgeting process and support rolling forecasts., • Drives profitable growth by delivering actionable insights through P&L reviews, margin analysis, and cost driver assessments, enabling informed decision-making., • Provides detailed profitability analysis by customer and product line, supporting strategic pricing, sales planning, and margin optimization initiatives., • Delivers financial analysis & modeling for capital expenditure projects and customer proposals, supporting investment decisions and pricing strategies with clear, data-driven insights. 4. Cost Accounting & Inventory • Oversee cost accounting, standard costing, and inventory valuation., • Partnering with Operations and Supply Chain to improve inventory accuracy, minimize write-offs, and optimize working capital., • Support physical inventory and cycle count processes. Perform regular inventory reconciliations and support teams to resolve discrepancies., • Support ERP system enhancements and ensure data accuracy and consistency. 5. Cash Flow Management • Monitor daily cash positions and assist in short- and long-term cash flow forecasting., • Optimize working capital by managing receivables, payables, and inventory turns. 6. ERP and Systems Oversight • Manage and improve the use of ERP/accounting systems., • Lead process automation and system integration efforts across finance and operations. 7. Team Leadership & Development • Manage and mentor accounting staff (e.g., AP/AR, Staff Accountants)., • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with 7+ years of progressive financial work experience including developing forecasts/operating plans, and leading business/finance reviews. CPA strongly preferred., • Background in managing full-cycle accounting operations and month-end closing. Strong understanding of GAAP, inventory management, and cost accounting., • Proficiency with accounting software, Microsoft Business Central software, Advanced Excel skills, Power BI or similar reporting tools., • Experience with financial reporting requirements. Must have experience managing processes, developing standards, and creating and tracking budgets. Working knowledge of tax codes and laws., • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to partner cross-functionally with operations, sales, and supply chain., • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a fast-paced, growing entrepreneurial or private equity-backed environment., • Collaborative team player with the ability to build strong working relationships and contribute to a positive, high-performance culture., • Self-motivated and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and attention to detail.
