Job DescriptionThe primary role of the Mechanic is to diagnose and repair fleet and equipment in order to optimize the needs of operations and minimize equipment down time. Essential Responsibilities • Inspect, diagnose, adjust and repair power train, electrical, suspension, brake, hydraulic and air systems on vehicles and equipment., • Assist in execution of preventative maintenance program by performing oil and fluid changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, CHP BIT inspections, etc., • Perform on-road emergency service calls., • Make recommendations for parts, equipment and fabrication orders., • Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate repairs., • Utilize fleet management software to perform data entry, maintain accurate records and prepare various reports upon request, paying close attention to accuracy and detail., • Utilize service manuals as well as online technical resources, service literature and diagnostic software., • Observe and comply with hazardous waste and material handling and disposal procedures and regulations as set forth by local, state and federal environmental and health agencies., • Observe and comply with all applicable safety regulations, rules, policies and procedures., • Maintain clean, safe and organized work space., • Maintain collaborative working relationship with drivers, operators and coworkers and communicate timeline for downed vehicles., • Mentor and provide assistance to Mechanic Trainees., • Participate in external, Department and Company-wide trainings to increase skill sets and improve service. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of: • Diesel and/or compressed natural gas engines, heavy equipment mechanical components and parts., • Methods, tools, equipment and systems used in the inspection, diagnosis and repair of trucks and heavy equipment., • Vehicle computer diagnostic systems and fleet management software., • Federal, state and local job site health and safety rules, regulations and best practices. Job Description Repairs, installs, and performs preventive maintenance on all production equipment to ensure that such equipment is always in good operable condition. 3rd Shift • Uses safe working practices and always reports/repairs any hazard conditions., • Inspects machines, takes any required test, and completed “all” reports and paperwork as required., • Perform PM and repair work in accordance with A.I.B. standards., • Diagnoses and employs proper procedure of troubleshooting to determine when parts need replacement and when repairs are necessary., • Dismantles, repairs, and re-assembles gearboxes, fans, conveyors, blowers, compressors, pump, valve, and mechanical equipment when directed., • Dismantles, repairs, and re-assembles electrical motors, relays, timers, and allied electrical equipment., • Installs and repairs electrical conduit, cables, piping, tubing, controls, and grounding as directed., • Operates mobile lift truck and hoisting in the performance of maintenance work. Possess knowledge of simple rigging when necessary for equipment moving and relocation., • Help maintain spare parts inventory for plant., • Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE • 1 year of industrial maintenance/electrical experience required. Food/beverage processing or packaging environment preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES • Experience installing and repairing electrical conduit, cables, piping, and tubing, including all necessary connections, controls, and grounding preferred., • Able to disassemble, repair and reassemble gear boxes, fans conveyors, blowers, compressors, pumps, valves, furnaces, drives and all allied mechanical equipment related to electrical troubleshooting preferred., • Experience troubleshooting and repairing oven combustion and safety devices preferred., • Possesses working knowledge of hydraulic, compressed air systems and be able to read complex diagrams and troubleshoot these systems. Preferred, • Experience Installing and repairing pneumatic conduit, cables, piping, and tubing, including all necessary connections, controls, and grounding preferred., • Possess working knowledge of Power tools such as drill presses, cut off saw, lathes, mills, and table tools., • Electrical test equipment such as voltmeter, megger, ammeter, diode, and SCR tester., • Gas and Plasma cutting equipment. We normally book loads at an average of 2.30 plus per mile (weekly averages with front and back haul combined). During peak seasons this is higher!.
