Position Title: Parks & Events Support Staff Job Description: The Parks & Events Support Staff position is a seasonal role (mid-April through mid-October) with a guaranteed 40-hour work week. The core focus of this position is event support, with flexible scheduling to accommodate city events, and the remainder of weekly hours dedicated to supporting parks maintenance operations. On non-event days the position will work a set scheduled as established with their District Supervisor, assisting with general maintenance and daily operations. When city events are scheduled, hours will vary slightly to provide event setup, on-site support, and breakdown assistance. A complete event calendar, including dates requiring adjusted hours, will be provided to candidates during the interview process to ensure clear scheduling expectations. This role serves as a key link between Parks and Community Events, helping prepare parks for gatherings and coordinating access to utilities, facilities, and infrastructure needed to support successful city events. The position reports to the District Supervisor and works closely with the Community Events team. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Event Preparation & Support: * Ensure event spaces & facilities in parks meet standards for cleanliness and accessibility and parks for events, ensuring cleanliness, accessibility, and necessary infrastructure availability. * Assist city events team with transporting, setting up, and taking down event equipment, including stage trailers, canopies, tables, and chairs. * Manage onsite waste disposal, ensuring trash bins are available and emptied as needed. * Maintain and oversee restroom facilities during events, ensuring they are stocked and functional. * Open power boxes and operate water access points as required for events. * Act as the main point of contact between the Parks Division and the Community Events team. * Communicate with the corresponding district supervisor before each event to confirm access points for power, water, and other park utilities. * Provide real-time updates and troubleshoot issues related to park facilities and event setup. * Monitor event activities to prevent damage to park property and ensure responsible use of resources. Park Maintenance: * Performs a variety of duties required to maintain City-owned grounds, parks, trails, cemeteries, open spaces, and recreation facilities, including mowing, aerating, and weeding turf; cleaning restrooms; picking up trash; raking leaves; clearing sidewalks; and removing debris. Assists with park-related projects such as laying sod, re-seeding, and planting of flowers and trees and inspecting and adjusting sprinkler systems. * Operates various types of handheld and light mechanical equipment including mowers, sweepers, blowers, and other grounds maintenance equipment. May operate heavy landscaping equipment (not requiring a Commercial Drivers License). * Operates various types of vehicles, equipment and irrigation systems necessary to successfully complete assigned tasks. Responsible for the preventive maintenance, minor repairs and adjustment of equipment to ensure the proper operation and safe efficient use. * Assist in the proper mixing and application of fertilizers, herbicides and other chemicals used in the care and maintenance of turf and landscaped areas. * Assist in the preparation of ball fields, parks and picnic areas when areas are specifically reserved by the public. May work with other city departments and agencies as needed. * Perform related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Ability to get to various Parks and Public Lands facility. May require personal and city vehicle with a valid driver's license or driving privilege card. * Must be at least 16 years of age. DESIRED QUALIFICATION * Experience in maintenance and landscaping. * Experience working for a city municipal park. * Experience operating light or heavy-duty equipment, including open and enclosed trailers. * Prior experience in event setup, maintenance, or related field preferred. * Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 80 lbs. * Strong communication and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Flexible availability, including weekends and evenings as required by event schedules. * Ability to safely operate a truck while towing a trailer, including navigating downtown and high-traffic areas. * Strong written and verbal communication skills in English required; Spanish proficiency preferred WORKING CONDITIONS: * Moderately heavy physical activity required to push, pull or lift medium weights up to 50lbs and on occasion up to 80lbs. Required to stand, walk or sit uncomfortably for extended periods.
