Job Description Job Title: Packaging Technician Job Description The Packaging Technician assembles, labels, and inspects clinical pharmaceutical supplies to ensure they meet strict quality and regulatory standards. This temporary role follows detailed standard operating procedures and supervisory instructions to support clinical packaging operations for products used in critical clinical trials. The position suits individuals who can perform most phases of clinical packaging independently while still working under supervision in some areas. Responsibilities • Review batch records, instructions, and paperwork to fully understand and follow the specific packaging procedures required for each clinical study., • Package and label syringes, bottles, boxes, and cases according to detailed specifications and standard operating procedures., • Clean packaging rooms, equipment, and machinery as needed to maintain a compliant clean room environment., • Perform manual and automated filling and packaging of bottled pharmaceutical products independently, including approving labeling and monitoring quality throughout the process., • Set up, operate, and monitor various sealing and packaging machinery to ensure proper labeling and correct drug placement., • Assemble clinical supplies and ensure accurate and consistent label placement on all components., • Accurately count, fill, and prepare packages such as pill bottles and syringe packs to ensure correct quantities and configurations., • Perform final checks on in-process and finished products, verifying accuracy, labeling, and quality before packing goods into appropriately labeled containers and boxes., • Assist with staging, counting, and reconciliation of components and materials used in production and packaging runs., • Follow good manufacturing practices (GMP) and all applicable standard operating procedures to maintain compliance and product integrity., • Support general production activities such as assembly line work, packing, picking, order preparation, and material handling as needed., • Use tools and equipment such as RF scanners and other production line devices to support efficient packaging and inventory control., • Maintain accurate documentation and legible handwriting on labels, records, and production forms., • Collaborate with production operations, engineering, inventory, and quality assurance personnel to ensure smooth packaging operations., • Work mandatory overtime as needed to support production demands and meet clinical packaging timelines., • Work in a cold room environment for a portion of scheduled hours while following all safety and personal protective equipment requirements. Essential Skills • High school diploma or GED., • Strong attention to detail, especially in labeling and packaging, with an understanding that quality errors can have serious consequences in a pharmaceutical environment., • Ability and willingness to work in a cold room environment (approximately 35–46°ree;F) for up to about 10 hours per week, with all required personal protective equipment provided., • Willingness and ability to work mandatory overtime as required by production needs., • Good, clear, and legible handwriting suitable for documenting information on labels and production records., • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions, including batch records and standard operating procedures., • Capability to work in a clean room environment and consistently follow strict cleanliness and gowning requirements., • Comfort performing repetitive tasks on a production or packaging line while maintaining focus and accuracy., • Ability to perform manual and automated filling and packaging tasks safely and efficiently., • Basic capability to handle general production, packaging, and material handling tasks, including counting, picking, and packing., • Willingness to work closely with quality assurance and production teams to ensure compliance with good manufacturing practices. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Prior experience in manufacturing, production, or warehouse environments., • Experience working in roles with production goals or targets, beyond basic picking or packing responsibilities., • Previous pharmaceutical manufacturing or packaging experience, especially in a clinical or GMP environment., • Experience in clean room or aseptic environments., • Experience in quality inspection, labeling, or inventory control., • Familiarity with assembly lines, production lines, and RF scanners., • Experience in general labor roles involving filling, packing, order picking, and material handling., • Experience in environments where precision and documentation are critical, such as laboratory, medical, or regulated industries., • Candidates from fast food or retail backgrounds may be considered if they demonstrate strong reliability, tenure, and professionalism in prior roles. Work Environment This role is based in a pharmaceutical packaging department within a clean room environment. Team members must wear full gowning at all times, including gown, shoe covers, hairnet, beard net (if applicable), and safety glasses; prescription safety glasses are not provided. Work involves both manual and automated packaging lines, with interaction across production operations, engineering, inventory, and quality assurance teams. External interaction is limited to client personnel who may observe packaging operations. The position includes time in a cold room environment maintained at approximately 35–46°ree;F, with appropriate cold-weather personal protective equipment provided and a pay premium for all hours worked in the cold room. Standard schedules include a first shift from 6:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m (currently no openings)., Monday through Friday, and a second shift from 2:45 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with frequent additional shifts on Fridays from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Overtime is currently mandatory and typically consists of 6-hour shifts, resulting in 4–5 additional days per month (on Fridays, Saturdays, and occasional Sundays, depending on shift). The environment is structured, clean, and highly regulated, with a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and adherence to good manufacturing practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $19.25/hr.
