Job Description Position Summary McDaniel Metals is seeking an experienced Shop Floor Manager to oversee daily operations within the Curb Adapter (CA) Department on both day and night shifts. This role is responsible for supervising production personnel involved in the fabrication, welding, assembly, insulation, and packaging of custom HVAC curb adapters and related sheet metal products. The Shop Floor Supervisor will drive safety, quality, productivity, and employee accountability while ensuring production schedules and customer expectations are met. This position works closely with Production Management, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Planning to support efficient manufacturing operations in a fast-paced HVAC fabrication environment. Key Responsibilities Production & Operations Leadership • Supervise daily operations for the CA department including fabrication, welding, assembly, insulation, and packaging activities, • Coordinate labor and workflow to ensure production schedules and deadlines are achieved, • Monitor productivity, throughput, scrap, and rework to drive operational performance, • Ensure materials, drawings, and equipment are available to support uninterrupted production, • Support troubleshooting of production or workflow issues and escalate concerns as needed Leadership & Team Management • Lead, coach, and develop Leads and hourly production employees across assigned shifts, • Maintain accountability for attendance, productivity, quality, and workplace conduct, • Support onboarding, training, and cross-training initiatives within the department, • Promote strong communication, teamwork, and a positive shop culture, • Partner with HR and Production Management on employee performance and disciplinary matters when necessary Quality & Compliance • Ensure all products are manufactured in accordance with engineering drawings, SOPs, and quality standards, • Partner with Quality to reduce defects, scrap, and rework, • Verify employees are properly trained and following approved procedures, • Support audit readiness and maintain accurate production and training documentation, • Reinforce adherence to company QMS and operational standards Safety • Enforce OSHA, company safety policies, and all PPE requirements, • Conduct shift safety meetings and address unsafe behaviors or conditions immediately, • Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with 5S standards, • Participate in incident investigations and corrective action implementation Continuous Improvement • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, workflow, quality, and labor utilization, • Collaborate with Engineering and Production Management on process improvements, • Support implementation of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, • Drive accountability for maintaining efficient and standardized work practices Equipment & Maintenance Coordination • Coordinate with Maintenance regarding equipment issues, downtime, and preventative maintenance needs, • Ensure employees are operating equipment safely and correctly, • Support operational uptime across fabrication and welding equipment Measurable Performance Expectations • Achieve on-time completion of production schedules ≥ 98%, • Maintain department quality standards with minimal rework and scrap, • Ensure 100% compliance with PPE and safety requirements, • Maintain labor efficiency and productivity targets established by Production Management, • Support training completion and cross-training development within the department, • Maintain organized and audit-ready production areas Required Qualifications • 5+ years of manufacturing experience in sheet metal fabrication, HVAC manufacturing, welding, or related environment, • 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in a production environment, • Strong understanding of welding, fabrication, assembly, and production workflows, • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and production specifications, • Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced manufacturing setting, • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications • Experience in HVAC manufacturing or custom curb adapter fabrication, • Experience leading day and/or night shift operations, • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement principles, • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and production reporting Physical & Work Environment Requirements • Ability to work extended periods on the production floor, • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs., • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift, • Exposure to manufacturing environments with varying temperatures, machinery, welding operations, and moving equipment What We Offer • Competitive salary, • Medical, dental, and vision benefits, • 401(k) with company match, • Paid time off and holidays, • Growth and advancement opportunities within McDaniel Metals This role is ideal for a hands-on manufacturing leader who thrives in a fast-paced HVAC fabrication environment and can effectively lead teams while driving safety, quality, and operational performance.
