Job DescriptionPersonal Care Assistant / Special Education POSITION PURPOSE The Personal Care Assistant is assigned specifically to a student or group of Students who regularly need one on one assistance to maintain appropriate and equitable participation in the school setting. The PCA directly supports the students at the direction of the teacher and is under the general supervision of the program supervisor of special education. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – (May include) 1. Help prepare, collect and set-up materials for student participation, following teacher direction., 2. Provide instructional, behavioral, or physical assistance to students individually or in small groups at the direction of the teacher to reinforce and follow up instruction., 3. Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher. Check notebooks, correct papers, supervise testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher., 4. Assist with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and story telling., 5. Maintain daily activity logs for your assigned student(s)., 6. Alert regular teacher to any problem or special information about your individual student (s)., 7. Serve as the chief source of information for your assigned students to help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher., 8. Job Description Job Title: Lower School Third Grade Teacher - Long-Term Substitute Responsible to: Head of Lower School FLSA Classification: Exempt Last Modified: September 2025 Position Summary: The Haverford School is seeking a full-time long-term substitute third-grade teacher to begin in December 2025. Preferred candidates will have at least 3 years of elementary school teaching experience, a solid understanding of differentiated instruction, and a strong understanding of instruction aligned with the science of learning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Establish and communicate to students well-defined objectives for each lesson, including related projects and activities, • Employ teaching methods to deliver the School’s instructional program which consider the individual needs, interests, abilities, and maturity levels of the students, • Build partnerships with families and communicate effectively with them about the academic, social, and emotional growth of their child., • Provide a structured, supportive, encouraging, and creative classroom environment, • Monitor carpool, lunch, recess and playground, as assigned, • Possesses an understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion and the implementation of those principles at independent school, • Perform all other duties, tasks, and assignments as directed by the Head of Lower School Minimum Acceptable Qualifications • Bachelor's Degree, • Early childhood/elementary skills and experience, • Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons, • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues and parents, • Enthusiastic interest in teaching, motivating, and mentoring lower school students, • A role model for students, • Willingness to collaborate with peers, • Has engaged in professional development on the science of reading, visible learning, social and emotional learning/development, • Experience with classroom management and positive behavior support systems, • Has experience designing and implementing a diverse curriculum that promotes equity and inclusivity, • Proven ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, • Sense of humor, enthusiastic and happy, high ethical professional standards, and multi-cultural perspective Desired Qualifications • Familiarity with current research on the education of and learning styles of boys, • Pennsylvania Level I or II certification, • Aptitude in teaching children with varying abilities and learning styles, • Experience teaching literacy aligned with the science of reading and writing and math aligned with the principles of spaced learning and visible learning, • Familiarity with Canvas, Second Step, positive behavior support systems, a comprehensive literacy program, and an understanding of the fluency of skills and application of mathematics. Required Physical Characteristics • Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts., • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time., • Be able to occasionally lift up to15 lbs., • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment.
