Job Description Geoscientist I, Geoscience ERO Resources Corporation Position Overview The Geoscientist I position is responsible for project and field crew management and is knowledgeable in all aspects of data collection, analysis, and interpretation of scientific information and environmental regulations. A Geoscientist I will oversee both simple and complex projects from inception to completion and will prepare environmental documents including technical reports, sections of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, and environmental permits and is responsible for agency coordination. This is a leadership role including business development, marketing, project management, and mentoring duties. Minimum Education and Experience • Bachelor's degree in earth or physical sciences or environmental engineering., • Effectively communicate and delegate tasks for complex projects to junior staff., • Effectively communicate and delegate tasks for complex projects for GIS staff to coordinate maps., • Independently and efficiently prepare reports and scopes of work for complex projects including large technical reports for NEPA projects., • Meet deadlines and hours per task targets, communicate early any potential failure to meet these targets with clients or Principals., • Clear understanding of regulations that can be communicated to agencies and clients., • Completion of professional development or training. Business Development (5% to 10% of time) • Actively pursue new clients and projects., • Prepare and review technical and cost proposals (nonbillable)., • Undertake professional agency correspondence and coordination, including permit acquisition.Team Management Duties (5% of time), • Manage assigned personnel, including conducting yearly employee development and performance reviews., • Hiring and team capacity planning., • Establish and enforce team safety guidelines., • Provide mentoring and leadership to the team.Project Management Duties (85% to 95% of time), • Complete professional agency correspondence and coordination, determining specifications and guidelines., • Establish fieldwork and reporting schedules and provide project updates to staff and clients., • Manage client communication and coordination., • Initiate, conduct, and/or manage project tasks, and conclude projects, including file and literature reviews, field survey, and reporting., • Manage budgeting and deadlines for simple to complex projects., • Project scheduling and supervision of staff-level geoscientists, technicians, and field teams., • Ensure permit compliance., • Develop innovative approaches to regulatory compliance., • Maintain and ensure scientific and regulatory integrity., • Provide weekly project updates, as necessary, to the Geoscience Principal(s)., • Verify compliance with the Safety Plan and completion of Safety Checklists., • Upload/scan all field data into the appropriate locations every day upon returning to the office from the field or delegate and ensure data are transferred correctly., • Ensure that all field forms completed by assigned crew are filled out accurately and completely., • Complete resource documentation on applicable forms., • Self-check work for accuracy, clarity, and editorial errors., • Ensure assigned field crew stays on task., • Be responsible for field crew-level data quality control and safety management., • Be proactive, take initiative, and share responsibility to maintain equipment, keep office and geoscience field equipment organized, complete tasks, and assist with Quality Assurance/Quality Control., • Set an example through professional, hard, and focused work., • Mentor junior staff in technical expertise, regulations, reports, and client communications., • Assist with hiring staff as needed., • Assist with training for staff and lead team meetings., • Pursue educational opportunities as part of professional development and as responsible scientists. Educational opportunities may include workshops, classes, or mentorship with ERO principals or senior staff.Skills and Abilities, • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products and Adobe Acrobat., • Effective communication skills – written and verbal., • Organization, managing multiple priorities, and oversight of project staff and deliverables., • Proven ability to conduct project management tasks and handle multiple priorities including using available tools such as Outlook and Ajera, checklists, and available agency guidelines and requirements to produce regulatory compliant and on-budget project deliverables., • Intimate working knowledge and experience to complete all aspects of an ASTM International (ASTM) E1527 Phase I ESA., • Design, conduct, evaluate, and prepare site characterization and assessment reports., • Provide regulatory interface for clients with regulatory agencies., • Critically evaluate and provide peer-review of ESA reports prepared internally and provided by third parties., • Provide third-party review, consultation, and evaluation of outside consultant reports and activities., • Cross-market ERO services both internally and externally to fulfill client project goals and needs., • Maintain existing client relationships and pursue, acquire, and develop new clientele or market areas., • Proficiency in leading crews and/or subcontractors., • Ability to collaborate with field teams and cross-functional teams throughout the company, clients, and regulatory agencies., • Creative thinking to adjust to unforeseen circumstances., • Soil Scientist, • Environmental Scientist, • Geologist, • Hydrogeologist, • Geochemist It is the continuous practice of ERO Resources to encourage inclusion and provide equal opportunities in employment to all employees and applicants.
