American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Kansas City, Missouri. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 04/27/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, days, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Days, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Apr 27, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting, • Primary patient population includes post-surgical cases: bariatric, urology (TURP, TURBT with CBI, nephrectomy), hepatobiliary (Whipple, liver resection), colorectal (colon resection, ostomy), and trauma patients including necrotizing soft tissue infections requiring serial debridement, • Pain management modalities include epidurals, PCA, ketamine drip, and lidocaine infusions, • Patients frequently present with multiple drains (foley, JP, IR, NG tube, chest tube, G-tube, J-tube, GJ-tube) and wound vacs, • Day shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM, • 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period, with a combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shifts, • Floating between departments, units, and facilities may be regularly required, • No on-call requirements, • Block scheduling is not availableRequirements, • Active MO RN license or Compact RN license; both Kansas and Missouri licenses must be in hand at time of consideration, as floating between facilities may be required, • Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required, • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/stepdown specialty experience required, with at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gap greater than 90 days in the past year, • Experience in med/surg telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown settings required, • Proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, • Skills required: use of rapid response/code teams, feeding tube care and management, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), peripheral line and PICC line care and management, starting and maintaining IVs, epidural analgesia, PCA, surgical drain management, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), isolation precautions/PPE, wound care, and wound vac management, • 2 professional references required: at least one must be supervisor level or above; the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year, • Pending MO or Compact RN license acceptedAdditional Information, • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted, • RTO maximum of 7 days for the duration of the contract, • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position, • Travel partners are not accepted for this position, • Orientation modules are required as part of compliance and are completed prior to the start date and annually thereafter With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
