Job DescriptionJob Title: Cook Job Description This role prepares and serves made-to-order meals in a small, clean, climate-controlled hospital setting. You work a standard Monday through Friday schedule from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with alternating weekend shifts. You support a family-like team by cooking on a ticket system, assisting with kitchen prep and cleaning, and providing friendly customer service to patients and guests. Responsibilities • Prepare and cook meals to order using a ticket system, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely service., • Perform line cook duties, including grilling, sautéing, baking, and assembling plates according to established standards., • Support daily food preparation tasks such as chopping, portioning, and organizing ingredients for service., • Serve food and interact courteously with patients and guests, answering basic questions and ensuring a positive dining experience., • Provide customer service in a professional, friendly manner, maintaining a customer service–oriented approach at all times., • Assist with tray line operations, assembling and organizing meal trays accurately and efficiently., • Communicate with patients and staff in a respectful, clear, and helpful way when discussing meals or service needs., • Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, ensuring they are cleaned, sanitized, and properly stored., • Perform general cleaning tasks, including wiping surfaces, cleaning equipment, and maintaining a neat and orderly kitchen., • Sweep and mop floors regularly to maintain a safe and sanitary work area., • Handle basic dishwasher and dishwashing duties, including loading, running, and unloading dish machines., • Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff., • Adapt quickly to changing needs in the kitchen and willingly assist with any task requested to support the team., • Learn new processes and procedures quickly and apply them consistently in daily work.Essential Skills, • Proven experience working as a cook or line cook in a ticket-based, made-to-order environment., • Ability to cook meals to order while maintaining speed, accuracy, and quality., • Strong customer service skills and a customer service–oriented mindset when interacting with patients and guests., • Experience with general food preparation, including chopping, portioning, and basic recipe execution., • Knowledge of food safety practices and proper sanitation procedures in a kitchen or foodservice setting., • Ability to perform dishwashing duties, including operating dish machines and hand-washing items as needed., • Capability to handle cleaning tasks such as wiping surfaces, cleaning equipment, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness., • Ability to sweep and mop floors and keep work areas safe and organized., • Willingness to talk with patients and staff in a friendly and professional manner., • Ability to move quickly, learn fast, and adapt to changing demands during busy periods., • Positive attitude, reliability, and a strong willingness to do whatever is needed to support the team.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Background in foodservice or hospitality environments., • Experience working in a hospital or healthcare foodservice setting., • Comfort working both on the line and in support roles such as tray line, dishwashing, and cleaning., • Flexibility to work a standard Monday–Friday 12:00 p.m.–8:30 p.m. schedule with alternating weekends., • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration within a small, close-knit team.Why Work Here? Shifts run Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with alternating weekend coverage. The facility emphasizes cleanliness and sanitation, with regular sweeping, mopping, and equipment cleaning as part of the daily routine. The pace can be busy during meal times, requiring you to move efficiently while maintaining a professional appearance and appropriate kitchen attire suitable for a healthcare foodservice setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Louis, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
