Manual Miller / Precision Engineer Location: Marston Green Salary: Up to £19.00 per hour (depending on experience) Job Type: Permanent Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:00 – 16:00 or 06:00-15:00 Experienced Manual Miller Required We are seeking a skilled and experienced Manual Miller to join our specialist precision engineering to join our client business. This is a varied role focused on the manufacture of high-precision, one-off components and gears. Unlike many machining positions, this is not production or batch work. We require a machinist who can think independently, set up jobs from scratch, and work accurately from engineering drawings. Approximately 80% of the role will involve operating a Bridgeport Manual Milling Machine, with the remaining 20% involving rough machining gears on an Okuma 4-Axis CNC Milling Machine once competency has been demonstrated. The components are typically small and intricate, with most workpieces being under 100mm in size. Key Responsibilities • Operating and setting a Bridgeport Manual Milling Machine, • Producing high-precision one-off components and gears, • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, • Setting up tooling, fixtures, and work holding equipment, • Clocking bores and workpieces using a DTI (Dial Test Indicator), • Using rotary tables to accurately position components, • Calculating and working with PCDs (Pitch Circle Diameters), • Finding centres and datums to establish machining positions, • Working with angles, including degrees and minutes, • Carrying out in-process inspection using micrometres, verniers, gauges, and indicators, • Rough machining gears on an Okuma 4-Axis CNC Milling Machine, • Maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and housekeeping, • Following all health and safety proceduresEssential Requirements, • Proven experience operating manual milling machines, • Strong understanding of precision engineering principles, • Ability to use a DTI to accurately clock workpieces and bores, • Experience using rotary tables, • Understanding of PCD calculations and centre-finding techniques, • Ability to work with angular measurements (degrees and minutes), • Competent in reading engineering drawings, • Experience working to tight tolerances, • Ability to inspect and measure components accurately, • Self-motivated with excellent attention to detailDesirable Experience, • Toolmaking background, • Gear manufacturing or gear-cutting experience, • Experience using CNC milling machines, • Familiarity with Okuma machine controls
