Our client is looking to appoint an EHS Compliance Engineer who will report to the Senior EHS Manager. This role is responsible for overseeing the compliant execution of all technical operations related to health, safety, and sustainability systems across the European Knowledge Centre (EKC) facility in Hatfield. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee technical activities within pharmaceutical manufacturing, research, and commercial areas. The position plays a crucial role in ensuring that technical operations and systems meet all relevant safety and regulatory requirements, company procedures, and operational maintenance protocols. The role also supports the continuous improvement of compliance documentation for both the company and its specialist suppliers/sub-contractors, ensuring ongoing alignment with statutory, contractual, and internal standards. Main Duties/Responsibilities: • Ensuring effective implementation of the EKC EHS management system and policies pertaining to the operational and project works undertaken at the EKC., • Advising and supporting management teams surrounding statutory EHS compliance issues within the business., • Promote continuous improvement relating to health, safety, environmental and sustainability management and the development of the EHS management system., • Assist the investigation and reporting of accidents, incidents and non-conformances, making recommendations for corrective action improvements., • Develop and implement local EKC / global best practice wide initiatives designed to improve compliance and bring about cultural change., • Liaises with H&S representatives, employees and other stakeholders to assist in identifying, developing and implementing continuous improvements of HS&E standards, • Promotes EH&S standards within the EKC, • Maintains EHS records and databases as determined by policies and procedures, • Represent EHS interests in project teams, • Undertake local compliance audit programmes, analysing and reviewing outcomes with local management teams to monitor the quality and completion of compliance documentation., • Prepare for and support both internal and external EHS audits and inspections, • Report statistical information to line and functional management as required., • Identifying training needs and deliver awareness programmes for staff., • Liaise with and support site operational teams., • Liaise with external statutory bodies and consultants as required., • Assist in the development of risk assessments and hazard identification, • Monitor regulatory changes and stay updated on evolving legislation and standards to ensure ongoing compliance Essential and Desirable Experience Required: Essential: • Proven experience of both Engineering and EHS compliance - statutory, mandatory and best practice guidance., • Delivery of activities to support operational excellence and continuous improvement., • Ability to contribute to planning activities with horizons of typically 6 months to one year., • Operates within agreed operational and/or management guidelines., • Demonstrated knowledge of process safety, permit to work, and contractor management systems, • Strong understanding of UK CDM Regulations, PUWER, LOLER, and other relevant legislation, • Experience with LOTO, risk assessment methodologies, and safety control systems Desirable: • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies., • Previous experience working in a GMP / GLP or highly regulated industry., • Registered Engineering qualification (CEng / IEng / Eng Tech) Skills and Aptitude Required: Skills: • Ability to prioritise to meet operational goals., • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail., • Effective communication, administration and negotiation skills., • Commitment to promoting a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the team., • Planning & Organising, • Business Awareness, • Computer literate, • Awareness of Health & Safety Law/compliance standards Aptitude: • Strong team focus, • Good time keeping, • Adaptability to changing priorities and challenges., • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks and projects with potentially conflicting requirements., • Ability to take a structured approach to tasks and projects and to meet implementation deadlines., • Qualifications and Language:, • Educated to ‘A’ level standard/ONC/HNC standard., • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent), • Relevant technical qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering., • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills., • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a pharmaceutical or GMP / GLP environment., • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an EHS or Engineering role within a regulated manufacturing environment (pharmaceutical or chemical sector preferred), • Tools and Equipment Used/Working Environment, • Laptop Computer, • Mobile phone, • Hand and portable tools for maintenance activities, • MS office (Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel)., • CAFM System, • Working Relationships This position has working relationships with the following: • Estates team, EML engineering and Soft FM service teams to provide technical support., • Wider interaction with Operational Excellence / Business Effectiveness teams., • Provision of Technical guidance and expertise on statutory, mandatory, best practice compliance requirements to Key Sponsors, Stakeholders and Project teams, • Regulatory to support Regulatory compliance and generation of GMP /GLP documentation, • External parties, • External suppliers.
