Vacancy: Technical Manager Location: Exhibition Centre, London Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 (dependent on experience) Package: Up to £50,000 including commission and bonus Job Type: Full-time, Permanent This is a rare and exciting opportunity to become Technical Manager at an impressive International Convention Centre. The venue will feature a wide range of event spaces equipped with large-format LED screens and cutting-edge event technology, hosting everything from gala dinners and corporate conferences to exhibitions and sporting events. As Technical Manager, you will lead the technical planning and on-site delivery of events, ensuring seamless execution while acting as the key interface between technical and commercial requirements. A major part of your success will come from building strong, trusted relationships with the venue’s in-house events team and external clients. This role would suit an experienced AV Technical or Project Manager, or a senior AV technician ready to step into a leadership role within a flagship venue. Key Responsibilities Technical Operations • Oversee the planning, installation (“get-ins”), operation, and de-rigging (“get-outs”) of AV, lighting, sound, rigging, and LED systems, • Support delivery across conferences, exhibitions, live performances, gala dinners, and sporting events Equipment & Asset Management • Assist with maintaining all in-house technical equipment to a high standard, • Manage on-site technical inventory, • Coordinate repairs, PAT testing, servicing, and upgrades Project & Financial Management • Translate creative briefs into robust technical solutions, • Produce detailed technical specifications and CAD drawings Client & Stakeholder Liaison • Act as the primary technical contact for clients, promoters, and visiting production teams, • Ensure technical requirements are delivered within venue capabilities Team Leadership • Supervise, schedule, and mentor in-house technicians, casual crew, and freelancers, • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment Health & Safety • Enforce strict health and safety standards, • Produce and manage RAMS, • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including CDM regulations Innovation & Development • Keep up to date with emerging AV and event technologies, • Support development of new services and efficient operational processes You’ll have strong end-to-end experience in live event technical production and thrive in a fast-paced, high-profile venue environment. Essential Experience & Skills • Extensive background as a live event AV technician, particularly with LED and video systems, • Experience managing technical production for live events, • Strong knowledge of event power, cable management, and event-based health & safety, • Understanding of conferences, congresses, and awards shows, • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve under pressure, • Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Desirable Skills • Experience with Analog Way systems, particularly Aquilon, • Basic CAD skills (Vectorworks or similar), • Knowledge of virtual events and streaming platforms, • Calm, confident, and professional under pressure, • Excellent written and verbal communication, • Strong attention to detail and numeracy, • A-Levels minimum; a relevant degree preferred Events predominantly take place on weekdays, however some evening and weekend work is required. This role offers flexibility but requires an understanding that it is not a 9–5 position.
