Job Description: Driver and Warehouse Operative Role Overview The Driver and Warehouse Operative is a critical, multi-functional role responsible for ensuring the efficient flow of goods, from processing and cutting raw materials to accurate order fulfillment and final delivery to the customer. This position requires proficiency in logistics, specialist machinery operation (vertical panel saw), inventory management, and strict adherence to all health and safety standards. The role also serves as a frontline representative of the company, directly influencing brand reputation. Working Hours • Hours: 7:30AM – 5:00PM Monday to Thursday. 7:30AM – 4:00PM Friday., • Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays), • Location: ‘The Good Sheet’, Unit 8&9 Nottingham Trade and Wholesale Park, NG2 3JJ Salary • From £30k per annum dependant on experience Core Duties and Responsibilities Product Knowledge and Order Fulfillment • System Processing: Utilise the internal computer systems to process orders, print pick lists, and manage stock locations accurately., • Stock Management: Input and update data in the system to reflect incoming, outgoing, and cut-to-size stock, ensuring real-time inventory accuracy., • Product Expertise: Demonstrate excellent knowledge of product lines, including all timber and sheet material specifications, to ensure the correct items are selected and processed., • Order Picking Accuracy: Assist with order picking to fulfill customer requests, ensuring 100% accuracy in quantity and specification., • Damage Prevention Packing: Implement best-practice packing techniques to secure products and prevent damage or movement during loading, delivery, and transit., • Documentation: Apply correct labelling, dispatch notes, and documentation to all packaged orders. Driving and Logistics • Vehicle Operation: Drive the company delivery van to transport goods on scheduled daily routes., • Brand Representation and Service: Act as a professional, polite, and effective representative of the company, reinforcing brand image and reputation through excellent customer service during all delivery interactions., • Road Conduct: Maintain a high standard of driving, acting as a considerate and responsible road user to uphold the company's reputation and ensure public safety., • Vehicle Checks: Conduct mandatory daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, accurately completing logs and promptly reporting any maintenance issues. Specialist Panel Saw and Cutting Operations • Precision Cutting: Operate the vertical panel saw to cut sheet materials to bespoke, cut-to-size specifications as detailed in work orders., • Drawing Interpretation: Read and accurately interpret detailed cutting lists, diagrams, and technical specifications., • Quality Control: Maintain high standards of finish and accuracy, inspecting all cut material before releasing it for packing., • Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to all safety protocols for operating woodworking machinery (PUWER), ensuring the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn at all times. MHE Operation and Safety (Forklifts and Pallet Jacks) • Certified Operation: Operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts only after receiving formal training and holding valid certification where necessary., • Pre-Shift Checks: Conduct mandatory daily pre-shift inspections of all manual handling equipment (MHE), promptly reporting any defects., • Load Handling Safety: Ensure all loads are stable, securely wrapped, properly centred, and do not exceed the rated capacity., • Safe Manoeuvring: Drive MHE at a safe speed, maintain clear visibility, and always be vigilant of pedestrians in shared traffic routes., • Secure Parking: Follow correct shutdown procedures, including lowering forks fully to the ground and removing the key. General Warehouse Operations • Loading/Unloading: Load and unload goods from incoming and outgoing vehicles, utilising correct manual handling techniques or mechanical aids to avoid injury., • Inventory Management: Organise and maintain inventory within the warehouse, including proper storage and racking of materials., • Cleanliness and Organisation: Maintain a consistently clean and organised work environment, instantly clearing aisles of debris to prevent trip hazards., • Communication: Communicate effectively with team members regarding operational issues, safety concerns, and potential hazards. Any other reasonable requests as directed by management to ensure an excellent customer experience and operating efficiency and environment. Essential Requirements and Skills • Full, valid UK Driving Licence with proven commercial driving experience., • Valid Forklift Operator Certification (essential; must be maintained throughout employment)., • Demonstrable experience operating cutting machinery, preferably a vertical panel saw., • Proficiency in using internal computer systems for order entry, processing, and stock management., • Strong commitment to Health and Safety protocols, especially those related to MHE (PUWER/LOLER)., • Excellent customer-facing manner and proven ability to represent a brand professionally., • Strong product knowledge of construction/timber materials is highly desirable., • Excellent numeracy skills and a high attention to detail for measuring and fulfilling orders., • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks safely, in line with manual handling training., • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
