Why This Role Has Arisen Our client currently employs approximately 40 people across the group and has clear growth plans over the next two years, supported by both organic growth and acquisition strategy. The Civil & Structural Engineering team has experienced sustained growth following strong project performance and the award of new schemes from an established and loyal client base. With a diverse and expanding pipeline of mission-critical infrastructure work, they are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to help deliver and lead projects. The Senior Civil / Structural Engineer will work alongside Principal Engineers and Directors, leading projects with confidence and technical authority. This is a hands-on design role, requiring strong technical capability alongside client engagement and team mentoring responsibilities. Key Responsibilities • Undertake structural analysis and civil/structural design (or check work completed by others), predominantly to Eurocodes and other prevailing industry standards, • Deliver works including bridge design, building design/refurbishment (stations, depots), railway platforms, drainage, car parks, arch viaducts and associated infrastructure, • Operate across the full project lifecycle, including GRIP1–GRIP8 and London Underground CDS/DCC processes, and/or DMRB standards, • Interface with clients and multidisciplinary teams (M&E, SISS, Architecture, Track, Signals), attending and chairing key technical meetings including IDC/IDR reviews, • Respond to site callouts, making informed decisions impacting operational railway environments and public safety, • Produce clear technical reports and documentation in agreed formats, • Programme and control projects, managing budgets, change controls and commercial performance, • Mentor and supervise graduate and junior engineers, ensuring high standards of engineering delivery and document control, • Act in roles such as CRE, CEM and/or DPE/PE (subject to competence approval) and support assurance submissions to Network Rail / TOCs, • Maintain responsibility for quality of technical outputs, • Support financial control, audits (RISQS / ISO), resource planning and business development activities, • Ensure full compliance with CDM Regulations and health & safety requirements, • Work flexibly, including occasional night working in rail environments Minimum Competencies • Strong understanding of civil/structural engineering and interdisciplinary design, • Proven technical capability in design engineering from first principles, • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, with BIM environment experience, • Strong report writing, calculation and specification skills, • Ability to mentor and supervise junior engineers, • Appreciation of contract administration and project management Required Experience • Minimum 3 years’ consultancy experience, • Proven experience in structural/civil design across rail (or highways), buildings, roads and associated infrastructure, • Experience managing and coordinating multidisciplinary rail projects, • Site supervision and contract documentation preparation experience, • BEng or BSc with MICE or MIStructE or HNC/HND with AMICE, • MSc/MEng desirable but not essential Salary & Benefits • Competitive salary (DOE), • Pension Scheme, • Private medical insurance, • Life insurance, • Company events Next Steps If you are a technically strong Senior Civil / Structural Engineer with rail experience and are looking for a role where you can lead projects while contributing to the growth of a dynamic consultancy, we would welcome a confidential discussion.
