Working across a complex and dynamic arts venue, you'll lead the development and implementation of health and safety strategies aligned with legal standards, best practice and corporate priorities.\nYou will act as the organisation's subject matter expert, advising senior leaders, influencing culture change, and ensuring robust systems around CDM, fire safety, risk assessment, accident investigation, training and communication.\nKey responsibilities include:\n\nLeading the Health & Safety strategy and ensuring consistent delivery across all departments.\nManaging and developing the Health & Safety and Fire Safety Managers.\nAdvising leadership on legislation, compliance and best practice.\nOverseeing internal and external audits, ensuring continual improvement.\nChairing and presenting to key committees and stakeholder groups.\nManaging risk assessment processes and conducting high‑risk investigations where required.\nRepresenting the Barbican to industry bodies and regulators. \nWhat You'll Need to Succeed\nTo excel in this role,you'll bring significant experience and technical expertise in health, safety and wellbeing within large or complex environments.\nEssential qualifications & experience:\n\nNEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and Chartered IOSH membership (CMIOSH).\nExtensive knowledge of H&S legislation and industry best practice.\nProven experience implementing H&S strategies and driving culture change.\nStrong track record in risk assessment, accident investigation and RIDDOR.\nExperience managing ISO 45001 or equivalent management systems.\nAbility to influence at all levels, from Board members to operational teams.\nExperience leading teams and managing budgets.Key skills:\n\nExceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.\nMethodical, data-driven approach.\nStrong problem-solving abilities and resilience under pressure.\nHigh attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. \nWhat You'll Get in Return\nWorking at the Barbican means more than just a job, it's joining a vibrant cultural community with a strong commitment to people, creativity and wellbeing.
