Job Title: Commercial Controller Location: Austin, TX Employment Type: Full-Time Industry: Commercial Real Estate / Development / Investment About the Company We are a fast-growing commercial real estate investment and development firm with a diversified portfolio across office, industrial, mixed-use, multifamily, retail, and land development. Our team partners closely with capital, acquisitions, and project delivery groups to drive value across all phases of the asset life cycle. As we expand across Texas, we are looking for a high-caliber Commercial Controller with strong experience in acquisitions, financial reporting, and multi-asset class operations. Position Summary The Commercial Controller will lead all accounting and financial management functions for a diverse portfolio of assets. This person will play a key strategic role partnering with the Acquisitions, Asset Management, and Development teams to support underwriting, due diligence, deal structuring, and post-close integration. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, deal-driven environment and has hands-on experience controlling financials for multiple real estate asset classes. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting • Oversee full-cycle accounting for commercial real estate assets across multiple asset classes (industrial, office, retail, mixed-use, multifamily, land, etc.)., • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting., • Manage cash flow, forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis across the portfolio., • Prepare consolidated reports for executive leadership and equity partners., • Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP. Acquisitions Support • Partner closely with the Acquisitions team on new deals, including:, • Financial modeling inputs, • Reviewing historical financials, • Evaluating pro formas & operating assumptions, • Supporting underwriting and scenario planning, • Lead financial due diligence: rent rolls, CAM reconciliations, OPEX audits, tax assessments, vendor obligations, etc., • Oversee accounting integration of newly acquired assets. Operational Oversight • Manage AP/AR, job costing, project accounting, and general ledger integrity., • Support construction teams with budget tracking, draw requests, and lender reporting., • Collaborate with Asset Management to optimize NOI, operating efficiencies, and long-term financial planning., • Coordinate annual audits and tax preparation with external accounting partners. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration • Supervises and develop accounting staff, ensuring strong controls, accuracy, and operational efficiency., • Partner with internal and external stakeholders including lenders, investors, auditors, legal, and property management teams., • Improve processes, implement new systems, and build scalable accounting infrastructure as the business grows. Qualifications Required • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field., • 5–10+ years of accounting experience in commercial real estate or investment management., • Strong background supporting acquisitions (due diligence, onboarding, modeling inputs)., • Experience working across multiple asset classes (e.g., industrial, office, retail, multifamily)., • Deep understanding of GAAP and real estate accounting (CAM, OPEX, job costing, lease accounting, etc.)., • Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with Yardi, MRI, Sage, or similar platforms. Preferred • CPA or progress toward CPA highly desirable., • Experience in fast-growing development or investment platforms., • Strong analytical and communication skills, with ability to influence decisions across teams.
