Job Description Overnight Lead Technician – Veterinary Specialty Hospital Location: Bee Cave, TX (On-Site) Compensation: $30 to 38 per hour Schedule: Full-time About Violet Crown Veterinary Specialists Violet Crown Veterinary Specialists (VCVS) is Austin’s only privately owned specialty and emergency animal hospital. Position Overview The purpose of this position is to assist with employee training and evaluations to ensure patients consistently receive the highest level of care. Our goal is to deliver consistent communication to our employees, so this position will act as an extension of the management team to ensure changes are going into effect seamlessly. Any questions and feedback will be reported to the Director, if necessary, adjustments will be made. The Supervising technician will recognize non-routine or unusual situations and refer them to the Director with recommended solution(s). What You’ll Do • Direct technicians/assistants towards necessary duties to fulfill shift requirements and responsibilities., • Direct Patient traffic to maximize use of available technician time., • Give complete rounds to incoming staff., • Ensure accuracy of medications being filled and sent home with check system., • Oversee auditing of charts for completeness and accuracy of information. Refer charts to the appropriate veterinarian for questions concerning treatment., • Maintain adequate technician staffing with doctor's approval and take sick or late employee calls; find subs if necessary - report to management., • Resolve informal employee complaints; provide a general explanation of the nature and basis for hospital personnel policies and procedures. Maintain effective employee-management communication., • Oversee completion of daily checklists., • Maintain orderly evacuation if necessary, keeping count of employees and patients., • Monitor presentability of the front office and smooth flow of clients/patients through the exam rooms., • Maintain patient, client, and employee confidentiality., • Refrain from negative talk, gestures, or implied attitudes that reflect on the hospital., • Be liaison between staff and management and update the Director weekly with resolved/unresolved issues ., • Work habits include regular attendance, teamwork, initiative, dependability and promptness., • Schedule technicians within department to maximize efficiency, patient care and promote work-life balance, • Initially determine new hires skill level, • Work with new hires on training list relevant to their new position, • Meet with trainee to discuss training program-related feedback, progress and goals, • Identify need for technician CE and assist manager with on site continuing education training., • Promote off site continuing education for staff based on technical gaps., • Conduct ongoing technical evaluation of staff and report progress to Director, • Assist Director in providing an atmosphere conducive to learning and training What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications • High school diploma or GED., • Minimum 2 years of experience in a veterinary clinical setting (general practice or urgent care)., • Demonstrated competency in patient triage, restraint, and basic nursing skills., • Proficient in emergency procedures: rapid triage, oxygen therapy, IV catheterization, venipuncture, and fluid resuscitation., • Knowledge of shock protocols, toxicities, transfusion setup, and anesthetic monitoring., • Accurate medical record documentation and EMR proficiency., • Skilled in laboratory diagnostics (CBC, chemistry, urinalysis, cytology, blood gas)., • Competent in radiographic positioning, safety, and interpretation support., • Accurate medication preparation, labeling, and dispensing verification., • Clear, compassionate communication with clients and team members; maintains composure in high-stress situations., • Supports onboarding and training of new staff; identifies workflow improvements., • Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program., • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT) in Texas or eligible within 6 months., • RECOVER CPR certification or equivalent emergency life-support training., • 2–4 years of experience in a 24-hour emergency or specialty hospital., • Demonstrated ability to assist in emergency stabilization, anesthesia induction, and post-operative recovery., • Experience in fast-paced, multi-doctor environments., • Familiarity with specialty services such as internal medicine, surgery, or critical care., • Exceptional emotional control, empathy, and reliability under pressure., • Demonstrates initiative and a growth-oriented mindset; pursues continuing education in emergency and critical care., • Aligns with VCVS core values: learning, compassion, teamwork, and integrity.
