POSITION DESCRIPTION A & M Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to join our team and provide financial leadership and oversight across our portfolio of environmental and civil projects. The Controller will be responsible for managing all accounting operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, job cost accounting, internal controls, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role will oversee payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and general ledger functions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with construction-industry best practices. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in construction accounting, percentage-of-completion reporting, certified payroll compliance, and both in-house and third-party financial systems, while serving as a key partner to executive leadership in driving financial performance and operational excellence. Responsibilities/Duties WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING The successful candidate will be responsible for: Accounting • Manage the general ledger and financial and accounting processes, including invoicing/billing, collections, and fixed assets, • Job cost accounting, with experience in the Construction industry preferred, • Manage the collection of outstanding A/R, ensure that adequate working capital is in place, and generate periodic Statements of Cash Flow as required to keep top management apprised of company liquidity, • Manage and oversee accounts payable, ensuring bills and payments are accurately recorded, entered, and paid, • Prepare bank reconciliations and generate cash flow reports, • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing process, • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations as part of the monthly closing process, • Compile and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to management and the board of directors, • Organize and lead property tax filings in multiple states, • Work with outside CPA to fulfill annual financial statement audit requirements, • Provide financial analysis as needed for contract and product investment discussions, • Direct and coordinate the annual budgeting process - Work with management to produce the annual budget and prepare monthly variance analyses, • Act as primary liaison with banking institutions, as well as ensure that all required monthly and quarterly reporting is completed timely and accurately Requirements: REQUIRED EXPERIENCE • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university, • Prior supervisory experience is preferred, and the ability to lead, train, and develop staff, • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, • Solid understanding of accounting principles, processes, and procedures, • Technology savvy with strong knowledge of accounting and reporting software, • Exceptional skills in MS Word and PowerPoint are a must. Expert Excel skills are required, with the ability to use pivot tables and import/manipulate data, • Experience with Unanet and Viewpoint ERP systems, but experience using comparable ERP/accounting systems such as BQE Core, BST Global, Deltek products, CMiC, FOUNDATION, Sage, and Acumatica is acceptable MORE ABOUT A & M AND THE OPPORTUNITY At A & M, we strive through team collaboration, unified vision, and a positive work environment while striving for excellence for all our clients.
