Job Description Dispatcher/Clerk Job Category: Dispatcher/Clerk Non-Exempt Location: Fort Worth, TX – Operations Center Reports to: Manager, Operations Center General Job Summary: Dual qualified position ensures expeditious and efficient movement of railcars to and from a rail customer’s facility that meets their needs and expectations. This is achieved through communication with various departments combined with accurate and timely reporting of train and railcar events in our TMS. Dispatchers/Clerks are also responsible for efficiently and safely routing trains, constantly monitoring train movement or any conditions affecting their movement and taking immediate action when necessary. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: • Responsible for the coordination and monitoring of safe and efficient train operations., • Direct and coordinate railroad traffic, issue track warrants and authorities or notices to employees and vendors, monitor all rail movements and maintain any records or logs of all activities., • Monitor radio and telephone communications with other train dispatchers, train crews, maintenance personnel and operations as needed., • Know assigned territory and keep informed of any physical changes including any weather or environmental issues affecting train movements., • Manage any unexpected events and emergency situations by providing coordination and support to protect the general public, company personnel, and railroad with minimum disruption., • Enter track warrant and bulletins into dispatching system; order GTBs from Class One partners and input train information into PTC systems - both internal and external., • Coordinates and protects the movement of over dimension cars – high and wide cars., • Report alleged violations of operating rules and any irregularity relating to the movement of trains., • Act as a liaison between operations and rail customers regarding requested changes in scheduled rail service. Assist customers with rail car tracing and detailing., • Ensure timely instruction or reporting of train crew activities in TMS, including interchanges, rail car issues, unit train planning, and customer requests., • Move railcars in the TMS system based on customer requests reflecting actual work that is performed by train crews. Performs and applies railcar billing from customers for interchange., • Analyzes, corrects, or adjusts customer issues to resolve customer’s questions or concerns relating to our rail service., • Updates TMS database master file records as needed or instructed to maintain current customer information – contact, emergency, location, etc., • Compile reports or information for other departments or customers as requested or needed., • Perform miscellaneous activities, tasks and special projects as assigned by management team, including training, or assisting with new hires., • High School Diploma or GED, • Valid Driver’s License., • Follow safety policies and procedures., • Read, write, and communicate (speak, hear, and understand) in English., • Attention to Detail, • Above average skills with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel)., • Read and comprehend written safety rules, procedures, and safety manuals., • Ability to think and act quickly in responding to emergency and non-emergency situations. At times working under extreme pressure with a heavy workload and tight deadlines., • Ability to proactively listen and anticipate customers issues and resolve to customers and company’s satisfaction., • Effectively communicate instructions, directions , processes, procedures, safety rules and regulations to co-workers, supervisors, and others in written, oral, and scheduled form., • Associates Degree, • Previous experience in a call center/dispatch environment., • Previous experience in railroad operations, • Primarily an office environment., • Must be able so sit for long periods of time., • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required.
