Job Description Position: Preschool Teacher part-time Job description: We seek an enthusiastic and dedicated assistant teacher to join our team. Who will support the teaching team in creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for preschoolers (ages 2 to 5), promoting physical, emotional, and social development. Must be able to work the afternoon shift until 5:30/6:00 pm. This position requires you to be mobile for 90% of your shift. Responsibilities: • Assist the lead teacher with planning and implementing age-appropriate activities and curriculum, including free play, arts and crafts, music and movement, storytime, and outdoor play., • Help maintain a safe and clean classroom environment that meets health and safety standards, promoting independent learning and exploration., • Assist with feeding and toileting routines, following proper hygiene and sanitation protocols., • Observe and document individual and group progress and behavior, and communicate with the lead teacher and parents about any concerns or observations., • Interact positively and respectfully with children, cultivating a warm and caring relationship that fosters trust and self-esteem., • Collaborate with the lead teacher and other staff members to create a supportive and cohesive team that works together to provide quality care and education to children and their families. Requirements: • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, with some college coursework in early childhood education preferred., • Experience working with preschoolers in a childcare or educational setting preferred., • Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate teaching strategies and activities., • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills., • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, bend and stoop, sit on the floor, and stand for extended periods., • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain., • Must pass a background check and provide references. Although the Center / Field Director will be accountable for each of the responsibilities outlined below, Center / Field Director roles will vary depending on location size, structure, and partner relationship. SupervisionAssure the YMCA Memphis and The Mid-south job performance appraisal expectations are met for all staff including three-month review, six-month review, annual JPA, goal setting, and observation and feedback.Ensure implementation of all duties as described in job descriptions of center staff and other administrative team members.Conduct bi-annual evaluation of performance of center staff and other direct reports; guide them in development of individual goals for professional growth and monitor progress towards achieving these goals.Develop key staff to share leadership roles in the location.Partner with YMCA Memphis and The Mid-South HRBP when providing center staff any and all instances of progressive counseling, disciplinary action and if necessary, separation in accordance with EEOC, federal, state, local, and company guidelines.Review of the program and administrative staff’s job performance appraisals.
