Job Description Position Summary The Des Moines Art Center is searching for a Manager or Senior Manager of Membership and Development; this represents one opportunity on the Development team, where a specific offer will be determined based on an individual's qualifications. The Manager/Senior Manager of Membership and Development leads strategic initiatives to grow individual giving through the Des Moines Art Center's membership program. This role is responsible for executing effective giving strategies, driving membership acquisition and retention, managing member groups, and supporting overall development and fundraising efforts for the organization. Reporting Relationship This position reports to the Senior Director of Development. Essential Functions Membership Strategy and Management: • In collaboration with the Senior Director of Development, develop and implement membership acquisition and retention strategies as part of the annual membership plan to ensure a seamless member experience from initial enrollment through renewal by providing personalized communication and services to achieve annual membership goals., • Lead and oversee the creation of and management of membership tiers, benefits and pricing structures., • Working in partnership with the Marketing & Communications team to write, edit, and coordinate the design and production of membership materials. This includes, but is not limited to brochures, member group collateral, forms, digital deployments and special mailings to ensure a strong, cohesive, and consistent membership and development message., • Develop, plan and lead the execution of membership events to acquire new members, retain current members, and encourage existing members to upgrade to the next membership level., • Execute special membership campaigns, including direct mail/social media/digital marketing, on-site campaigns, hosting events (working with the Gala and Membership Events Coordinator, who will provide actual set up and execution) to grow, retain, and attract new members., • Responsible for executing digital membership card marketing strategies., • Handle member inquiries, complaints, and requests., • With the Senior Director of Development, coordinate all facets of regional, national, and international travel opportunities for members, with an emphasis on building and growing relationships with donors and members, and increasing individual levels of giving., • Maintains communication with vendors, artists, speakers, instructors, etc. and develops agreements., • Attend community functions and events as a liaison for the Art Center to increase visibility for the development and membership programs, and the institution., • Coordinate and manage volunteers for the membership program to support membership mailings, events, and other related activities., • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of membership initiatives using membership data and provide data-driven recommendations for improvements and future strategies., • Serves as the staff liaison for member advisory groups (e.g., Print Club), providing leadership and support to ensure alignment with the Art Center's mission and institutional priorities., • Guides strategic direction to strengthen member and donor engagement., • Oversees marketing, scheduling, and system setup (e.g. Artifax, Tessitura) for member group initiatives., • Align membership and fundraising efforts to ensure that membership initiatives and development., • strategies are working in tandem to increase department fundraising efforts., • Assist with the stewardship of relationships with donors, sponsors, and institutional partners., • Develop and manage the budget for membership programs and membership group(s)., • This position requires flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed., • The use of a personal cell phone is required, and the Art Center will provide a reimbursement allowance per pay period., • Maintain a professional standard of performance and uphold the Art Center's values by demonstrating care for its collection, programs, and facilities. Required Education, Experience and/or Certification • BA preferred or other equivalent combination of experience and education., • 3+ years of progressive experience in membership management, fundraising, or donor relations, preferably within a cultural or nonprofit organization., • Proven success in developing and executing membership acquisition and retention strategies., • Experience in event planning and volunteer coordination., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in creating compelling marketing and outreach materials that effectively convey the institution's mission, vision, and strategic plan., • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills; able to engage effectively, professionally, and enthusiastically with donors, members, volunteers, and Team Members., • Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
