Job Description Job Title: Maintenance Technician Job Description This role focuses on inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical equipment and systems in a fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment. The Mechanical Maintenance Technician ensures optimal performance of machinery, minimizes downtime, and supports safe and efficient operations by performing routine and preventive maintenance on a variety of mechanical systems. The position offers full-time work on either a first shift (7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday) or a second shift (3:00 pm to 11:30 pm), along with strong pay and benefits. Responsibilities • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment to keep operations running smoothly., • Diagnose mechanical faults and determine effective solutions to minimize equipment downtime., • Install, assemble, and dismantle machinery and mechanical components as needed for production and maintenance activities., • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals to guide maintenance and repair work., • Conduct preventive maintenance according to established schedules and procedures to prevent breakdowns and extend equipment life., • Replace or repair defective components such as bearings, gears, motors, pumps, and other mechanical parts., • Troubleshoot and repair systems involving hydraulics and pneumatics to restore proper function., • Support PLC-related troubleshooting by using schematics and documentation to assist with resolving equipment issues., • Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively while performing maintenance tasks., • Collaborate with other maintenance technicians, engineers, and production staff to improve equipment reliability and efficiency., • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance work performed, including repairs, inspections, and parts used., • Adhere strictly to company policies, safety regulations, and lockout/tagout procedures to maintain a safe work environment., • Respond to maintenance issues in a timely manner, including potential weekend work or emergency callouts when required., • Demonstrate consistent, dependable attendance and flexibility to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary., • High school diploma or equivalent., • 5 or more years of experience as a mechanical maintenance technician or in a similar maintenance role., • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, industrial machinery, hydraulics, and pneumatics., • Proven experience with troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment in an industrial setting., • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, equipment manuals, schematics, and blueprints., • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment required for mechanical maintenance., • Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment and mechanical systems., • Ability to perform basic electrical troubleshooting and work with PLC-related issues using schematics., • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing and repairing equipment., • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively as part of a team., • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or emergency callouts when needed., • Consistent, reliable attendance and willingness to adjust to non-standard work hours when required., • Capability to handle job-related stress while maintaining professional and productive workplace interactions., • Technical diploma, trade school training, or certification in mechanical maintenance or a related field is preferred., • Experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial manufacturing environment., • Background in using maintenance documentation systems or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is beneficial., • Familiarity with reading and working from mechanical and electrical schematics., • Strong communication skills to work effectively with maintenance, engineering, and production teams. Work Environment This position is based in an industrial manufacturing setting with exposure to machinery noise and variable temperatures. You must adhere to all safety regulations and consistently use appropriate personal protective equipment. The role involves working on either a first shift from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, or a second shift from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm. You will need to provide your own tools and use them daily to perform maintenance tasks. Basic computer use is required to handle emails and work orders, and you will regularly interact with machinery, hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment in a busy, production-focused environment. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Waukegan, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
