DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -Assess patients' teeth, bone, and periodontal tissues indicating the presence of any abnormalities or suspected diseases or conditions. -Creates periodontal treatment plans based on the dentist's diagnosis. -Bring to the immediate attention of the dentist any suspected lesion in the mouth or on the teeth. -Thoroughly remove soft and hard deposits and extrinsic stain from teeth, using hand instruments, ultrasonic cavitron inserts, and prophy handpieces. -Instruct patients on good oral hygiene practices, recommend appropriate products or devices for patients' home care, and provide other health care education, as necessary. -Perform prophylaxis in the absence of periodontal disease or gingivitis. -Perform full mouth debridement, either as a first stage gingivitis therapy or to remove interfering calculus to further enable a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. -Perform scaling and root planing as a periodontal therapy. -Place locally administered antibiotics as supportive periodontal therapy. -Implement irrigation and desensitizing procedures or products as adjunctive to periodontal therapy. -Position and expose dental and carpal radiographic film and sensors. -Perform in-office whitening procedures, including first application of gel, curing the gel, and subsequent applications. -Apply cavity-preventive agents, such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants. -Make recommendations as to patients' re-care interval and follow-up needs. -All other duties and responsibilities as assigned and allowed under applicable Florida state laws and regulations. QUALIFICATIONS -Must be licensed and in good standing with the state of Florida. -Associates or Bachelor's degree in dental hygiene. -Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate. -Must be willing to partner with the dentist and work well as a member of the total dental team. Should have visual acuity and manual dexterity, since they use dental instruments within a patient's mouth with little room for error. WORKING CONDITIONS An RDH works in clean, well-lit offices. Important health safeguards include, but are not limited to strict adherence to proper radiological procedures, infection control protocols, and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment when administering anesthetic gas, handling or using cleaning chemicals, or working in the dental laboratory. An RDH must also wear appropriate personal protective equipment including, at minimum, safety glasses, surgical masks, full arm length gowns/lab coats, and gloves to protect themselves and patients from infectious diseases during all patient care and when handling contaminated instruments or equipment. Open-toe shoes are forbidden, long hair must be pulled back, and fingernails must be kept short and tidy.

The Dental Assistant at Bond plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality dental care by assisting dentists during clinical procedures and ensuring a safe, efficient, and patient-centered environment. This position is responsible for preparing treatment rooms, sterilizing instruments, maintaining accurate patient records, and providing direct chairside assistance across a range of dental services. The Dental Assistant also supports patient education by explaining procedures, post-treatment care, and oral hygiene practices. With a strong attention to detail, this role reports directly to the Director of Dental Operations. Requirements • Work chair side alongside the dentist as s/he examines and treats patients; handing instruments and materials to the dentist, and keep patients' mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices., • Sterilize instruments and equipment, prepare tray setups for dental procedures, and instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care., • Work directly with the patients, making them as comfortable as possible in the dental chair and preparing them for treatment., • Under the direct supervision of the treating dentist, enter clinical notes and charting., • Assist with periodontal charting as dictated by the dental hygienist., • Schedule and confirm appointments, receive patients, keep treatment records, send bills, receive payments, obtain dental records, and order dental supplies and materials., • Assist patients to complete all necessary forms and documentation., • Prepare trays and materials for the dental procedure., • Position is exposed to confidential records and allows knowledge of personal personnel information, administrative information, and all work of this position must be handled in a highly confidential manner., • Expose digital radiographs, • Removal of sutures, apply topical anesthetics, remove excess filling cement, and place dental dams on teeth to isolate them for treatment., • Greet patients as they arrive to the office., • Schedule, confirm appointments, and register new patients using Dentrix., • Verify insurances and determine patient eligibility for those patients without insurance., • Answer incoming phone calls, retrieve and return phone messages., • Maintain patient treatment records in Dentrix., • Collect payment from patients at time of treatment., • Requires a comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings., • Excellent oral and written communication skills., • Ability to perform administrative duties., • Ability to work independently and manage multi-functions., • Work harmoniously with other personnel., • Give clear verbal and written instructions., • Knowledgeable in the use of computers and Dental Software System I Dentrix. Qualifications • Graduation from an accredited Certified Dental Assistant., • Minimum of three years clinical experience preferred., • Ability to be clinically fluent in Spanish preferred., • Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred., • Florida license to practice Dental Assisting, • Current CPR (BLS) certifications. ACLS preferred. Physical Demands/Working Conditions: • Prolonged sitting or standing may be required., • Physical movements and the degree of mobility normally associated with the practice of primary care dental assisting will be performed on a repetitive basis., • Work under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required., • Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation, and other conditions common to a clinical environment may routinely be encountered., • Those physical movements and the degree of mobility normally associated with the practice of primary care dental hygiene will be performed on a repetitive basis., • The ability to distinguish letters and symbols, as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals, and copiers is required., • Possesses sight/hearing senses, or uses prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met., • Work under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required. Hours of Work: A minimum of 40 per week and as needed. May require work on some weekends.
