Position Summary: UrbanPromise Academy (UPA) seeks a passionate and skilled English educator who is committed to inspiring high school students to grow in their reading, writing, and analytical skills. The ideal candidate will thrive in a small, community-based learning environment where they can build strong relationships with students, differentiate instruction, and prepare students to become critical thinkers and engaged citizens. Essential Job Functions: Key Responsibilities: Mission Alignment • Uphold and embody the core values of UrbanPromise: Faith, Innovation, Community, and Holism., • Assess student skills in reading, writing, grammar, and comprehension., • Build upon an existing curriculum and design lesson plans that are engaging, student-centered, and responsive to diverse learning needs., • Develop and apply effective methods for assessing student learning., • Review, grade, and provide feedback on student work., • Document and communicate academic progress regularly via the school’s student information system., • Establish and maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment., • Clearly communicate and consistently enforce classroom expectations and schoolwide behavior policies. College & Career Preparation • Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities., • Serve as a Huddle Coach (homeroom advisor) to support a grade-level cohort., • Attend and actively contribute to weekly staff meetings, monthly all-staff meetings, and periodic events., • Support UrbanPromise community development and fundraising activities as needed., • Keep learning spaces clean, safe, and organized., • Participate in professional development and performance appraisal process., • Establish and maintain clear and effective communication with students, parents and other teacher., • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university., • Knowledge of NJ Standards for Common core standards, • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and teach effectively.
