Job Description Transportation Manager Full-Time Salary Range - $62,940-78,675 based on experience JOB SUMMARY The Transportation Manager serves as second-in-command at the Operations and Sustainability Center, directing all transportation and distribution operations. This role ensures safe, timely movement of goods across the Goodwill of the Chesapeake network, including retail stores, outlets, donation sites, and the Operations/Recycling Center. Responsibilities include supervising staff, managing routes and schedules, maintaining fleet compliance, and providing exceptional internal service. Acting in place of the Director of Operations when needed, the Transportation Manager is essential to achieving retail, sustainability, and mission goals through dependable logistics. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Transportation & Distribution Operations • Provides direct supervision and leadership to CDL A and B truck drivers and helpers, ensuring safe, professional, and mission-aligned operations., • Coordinates and schedules daily and weekly pick-ups and deliveries for:, • Retail stores and outlets (approximately 40 locations), • ADC sites, • Community-sponsored donation events, • Operations/Recycling Center, • Maintains proactive, professional communication with Store Managers regarding:, • Product needs, • Pick-up and delivery schedules, • Service changes or delays, • Works directly with Store Managers on store order requests, ensuring fulfillment is accurate, complete, and aligned with available product and transportation capacity., • Coordinates and schedules donation trailer deliveries and retrievals, ensuring proper placement, timing, and utilization., • Supports and coordinates special procurement initiatives, including:, • Home pick-ups, • Large business and corporate donations, • Community and special events, • Oversees all transportation vehicle maintenance and repair activities in partnership with the Director of Operations and approved vendors., • Ensures compliance with all DOT regulations, including but not limited to:, • Driver qualifications and licensing, • Pre- and post-trip inspections, • Hours of service requirements, • Drug and alcohol testing programs, • DOT physicals and certifications, • Maintains accurate and compliant records related to fleet maintenance, inspections, driver files, and regulatory documentation., • Ensures all transportation staff are properly trained on safety protocols and are equipped with required personal protective equipment (PPE)., • Investigates all transportation-related incidents and accidents thoroughly, completing documentation accurately and in a timely manner., • Recommends or initiates personnel actions, including hiring, promotions, transfers, coaching, disciplinary actions, and terminations, in accordance with policy and in collaboration with HR and the Director of Operations., • Prepares, reviews, and submits accurate time and attendance records for all assigned staff in accordance with payroll deadlines., • Coordinates and schedules departmental meetings, safety talks, and training sessions as needed., • Develops and supports drivers through coaching, performance feedback, and clear expectations., • Prepares and submits weekly, monthly, and annual transportation reports, including key metrics related to:, • Route efficiency, • Fleet utilization, • Safety incidents, • On-time performance, • Provides direct operational and administrative support to the Director of Operations and performs additional duties as assigned., • High School Diploma or equivalent required., • Minimum of six (6) months of experience in logistics, transportation, or operations environment required., • Minimum of two (2) years of dispatch, routing, and/or operations support experience required., • Experience with logistics, routing, and scheduling software preferred., • Directly supervises CDL A and B truck drivers and helpers., • Must possess a current, valid CDL A license., • Must meet all DOT eligibility and medical requirements., • Must maintain insurability in accordance with organizational and state requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • Uses sound logic and reasoning to evaluate situations, identify strengths and weaknesses of potential solutions, and make effective, timely decisions., • Reads, interprets, and understands written documents, policies, procedures, and reports related to operations and compliance., • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly convey information to a variety of audiences., • Provides exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders, including store leadership, support departments, donors, customers, and business partners, while building positive and productive working relationships., • Identifies complex operational or logistical problems, analyzes relevant information, develops options, and recommends or implements effective solutions., • Exhibits strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing demands, and work effectively with limited direct supervision and frequent interruptions., • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook., • Effectively uses computer applications to manage large volumes of information, including creating and editing simple databases, entering and retrieving data, and generating reports to communicate results., • Possesses a working knowledge of internet-based tools, including configuring standard web browsers, conducting effective searches, and sending and receiving professional email communications. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light Lifting up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds. May be required to regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach with hands/arms with full range of motion, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push or pull. Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: None WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate Employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
