Job DescriptionA Day in the Life You step onto the production floor and head straight to a press where a multicavity mold is flashing. You diagnose the issue in the press, fine-tune ejection, inspect vents and parting lines, and bring the tool back into spec. Before lunch, you swap heaters on a hot runner, chase a cooling-line restriction, and log your PM notes. By the end of the shift, youve supported a startup, executed an emergency repair, and collaborated with Process Technicians and Quality to keep parts flowingafely, efficiently, and to standard. Role Overview Were a growing plastic injection molding organization seeking a hands-on tooling expert who loves problem-solving and working with their hands. This position spends most of the time on the floor, partnering closely with presses, molds, and production teams to reduce downtime and uphold part quality. This opening can be hired as Technician I, II, or Senior based on your experience and technical depth. Compensation is flexible within the posted range, commensurate with expertise in injection molding tooling, mold repair, and process support. What Youll Tackle • Troubleshoot in-press issues: flash, short shots, sticking parts, and cosmetic defects., • Tear down, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on injection molds., • Clean, polish, lubricate, and replace components (pins, bushings, lifters, slides, ejectors)., • Diagnose and repair hot runner systems (heaters, thermocouples, wiring, leaks)., • Inspect cooling circuits, vents, and parting lines to optimize performance., • Execute urgent repairs to minimize production downtime., • Support mold trials, startups, and process adjustments., • Collaborate daily with Process Technicians, Operators, Quality, and Supervisors., • Spot recurring tooling problems and recommend practical improvements., • Document PM and repair work accurately and on time., • Keep the work area clean, safe, and organized., • Perform welding, machining, grinding, polishing, and detailed handwork., • Reverse engineer damaged components using CAD and/or manual measurements.What You Bring, • 10+ years of hands-on tooling experience in a plastic injection molding facility., • Deep understanding of mold construction and function; comfortable working on tools in the press under production pressure., • Hot runner expertise (DME, Husky, Mold-Masters, Synventive, or similar)., • Ability to read mold prints; strong mechanical aptitude with hand, measuring, and shop tools., • Team player who can also work independently and make sound, quick decisions., • 5+ years CNC mill programming and setup; 5+ years G-code and CAD/CAM., • Proficiency with manual toolroom equipment (mill, lathe, surface grinder)., • EDM sinker and wire experience., • Comfort operating overhead cranes for mold work.Bonus Skills, • Tool & Die, Mold Making, or related technical trade certification., • Micro TIG welding and A1 surface polishing., • Background in high-volume or tight-tolerance environments (automotive, medical, consumer goods)., • Fusion 360 and/or SolidWorks; IQMS familiarity; HAAS CNC mill experience.Physical & Shop Environment, • Regularly lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs., • PPE required (safety glasses, high-visibility apparel, safety-toe boots)., • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing; work in tight spaces., • Operate around hot molds, presses, cranes, and other industrial equipment., • Willing to work overtime or weekends when production demands it., • Hands-on 60 80% of the time with some desk/computer tasks.Why Youll Love Working Here, • Competitive hourly pay based on experience and skillset., • Exposure to complex tooling and advanced systems., • Wide variety of molds and challenges for continuous learning., • Collaborative, team-oriented production culture., • Comprehensive benefits, including free medical/HSA coverage for employees earning under $75,000 annually who elect individual coverage., • 401(k) retirement plan., • Generous paid time off and company holidays., • No-cost weekly uniform service., • Annual boot allowance for qualified safety-toe footwear.
