Job Description Job Title: Production Operator Job Description The Production Operator is an entry-level role within a specific manufacturing department where you learn to operate production equipment, follow established setup instructions, and support the creation of high-quality parts. You will be assigned to an area such as cut off, end forming, large bending, or production machining, and will work toward developing the skills needed to progress into a setup-level operator role and beyond. This position is ideal for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude who want hands-on experience in a clean, safety-focused production environment with clear opportunities for advancement. Responsibilities • Learn how to operate various types of production equipment within the assigned department, such as cut off, end forming, large bending, or production machine work centers., • Make minor adjustments during production runs to maintain quality standards and ensure parts meet dimensional requirements., • Read and follow previously prepared setup sheets and routing packages for individual parts to ensure correct processing., • Run parts according to their specified dimensional and routing requirements., • Conduct quality inspections as required by written Quality Procedures and document findings as needed., • Complete accurate records of production, including quantities, times, and any relevant quality or process information., • Move parts to subsequent operations, including identifying scrap or rework items and documenting reasons for nonconformance., • Report equipment, quality, or process issues promptly to the Group Lead or appropriate team member., • Participate in the corrective action process to help prevent defects from recurring and support continuous improvement initiatives., • Take part in team meetings focused on improving safety, quality, efficiency, and overall operations., • Operate hand pallet jacks safely to move materials and completed parts within the facility., • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and interest in working with production machinery and tools., • Proficiency in basic shop math, including working with fractions, decimals, and metric measurements., • Ability to read and follow specific routing instructions and understand setup instructions for individual parts., • Ability to learn to read blueprints; prior blueprint reading is helpful but can be taught on the job., • Proficiency in using measuring instruments such as tape measures and dial calipers to verify part dimensions., • Ability to stand for an 8-hour shift or longer as required by production demands., • Ability to bend, twist, and stoop to remove parts from baskets and lift them to the work area safely., • Ability to load parts into the work area and move completed baskets without damaging parts., • Willingness to work overtime, including extended shifts and weekends, in a high-volume production environment., • Experience with tube or sheet metal fabrication is preferred and provides a strong advantage., • Previous experience in metal fabrication environments is highly beneficial compared to general assembly line or packaging experience., • Willingness to participate in onsite training and pursue internal certifications. Work Environment This role is based in a large, 256,000-square-foot production facility that is very clean, organized, and not excessively loud, with safety as the top priority. You will work around production machinery, metal fabrication equipment, and material-handling tools such as hand pallet jacks. The position operates on two primary shifts: first shift runs from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and second shift runs from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Second-shift team members typically train on first shift for approximately two months, depending on their learning progress. The operation is currently running heavy production, so you should expect 50 or more hours per week, including regular overtime and some weekend work. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety procedures, with a production-floor dress code appropriate for a manufacturing setting, including suitable work attire and any required personal protective equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
