JOB SUMMARY Responsible to develop and implement our Building Sciences program companywide and ensure that individual offices are consistent with corporate strategies and approaches. This position will perform high-level customer support functions and travel to client locations (nationally). The position will work with all levels of Building Sciences technical personnel to implement a consistent, efficient Building Sciences Program. Initial activities will focus heavily on obtaining and training qualified building sciences staff and expanding the framework for which we perform our work. This position also requires identifying and developing business opportunities related to the identification and methods of remediation and monitoring of Asbestos, Lead, Mold, Radon, Industrial Hygiene and any Indoor Air Quality issues that our clients bring to us. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Serve as the direct supervisor of assigned technical personnel and provide regular performance reviews including timely feedback, positive reinforcement, and corrective action., • Develop professional-level technical and administrative support staff to achieve established objectives and deadlines and create a structure for the Service Area to thrive., • Provide technical expertise on projects., • Support, Business Development staff in scoping and budgeting projects, preparing proposals and providing technical expertise as needed, • Work with Regional Director to develop and implement and continually improve the building sciences structure companywide., • Identify work opportunities with existing and potential clients and make efforts to secure the work through networking and the referral process., • Responsible for project administration including project financial performance, budgeting, recognizing the need for change orders on a project and directing appropriate staff, selecting subcontractors and directing the issuance of purchase orders, approval of subcontractor invoices, directing the preparation of and approving project invoices, maintaining project files, closing the job, preparing project descriptions, and conducting project performance reviews., • Act as a liaison between the client and federal, state, and local regulatory agencies to clarify relevant standards and policies and communicate how they impact the client and/or project., • Provide marketing support by updating resume, preparing project descriptions, and participating in technical presentation and publishable opportunities., • Develop and maintain company templates (proposals, reports and field forms)., • Develop new ways to grow Building Sciences and stay ahead of the competition., • Develop and improve Building Sciences policies, procedures and new services., • Develop and maintain consistent audit procedure for all Building Sciences Projects., • Provide technical expertise on projects including:, • Indoor Air Quality, • Asbestos, • Mold, • Lead based Paint, • Sick Building, • Assemble and manage project teams for large and multi-office project assignments., • Develop, mentor and train technical staff through training, project execution and project reviews., • Manage the net revenue specified by annual core and transitional client assignments. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, industrial hygiene, environmental health science, chemistry, or a related field Experience: 7+ years of experience in building sciences consulting including two years of management, consulting, and business development experience Certifications: Current professional licensure (Asbestos, Lead) and OSHA Hazwoper 40 Hour Certification and/or General Industry 10 or 30 Hour Certifications are a plus Skills: Strong computer and verbal/written communication skills are a must Additional requirements: Driving positions require a current, valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable driving record. Must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Specific knowledge in the following areas is required. • Building construction and materials., • Mold, asbestos, Radon and lead., • Environmental and Health & Safety regulations., • Regulatory compliance and guidance., • Hazards inherent to environmental work and related safety measures. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Ability to travel nationally, including driving and air travel., • Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including outdoor settings, inclement weather, and uneven terrain., • May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, protective suits, gloves, and safety goggles., • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, and kneel for extended periods during site assessments and inspections., • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, such as equipment or samples., • Visual acuity to read instruments, documents, and labels., • Auditory ability to communicate effectively in noisy environments and while wearing PPE., • Ability to respond to environmental emergencies may require physical exertion and rapid mobility. JOB CONTEXT All positions require the completion of a successful background check, motor vehicle review, and pre-employment drug screen. 50 – 75% field/site visit travel (environmental job hazards), includes approximately 25% overnight travel and 25-50% day trip travel; 25 – 50% office (controlled environment) This position requires travel to various client locations, including day trips within the state or a neighboring state, resulting in longer workdays, and out-of-state, resulting in multiple days and overnights. Long-distance drives and air travel may be required. All company-related travel expenses are reimbursed per company policy. Shift work, weekend work, and holiday work may be required on an as-needed basis. This position may average between 40 and 60 hours per week with start times of 5 – 8 am (depending on location). Overtime (including holiday and weekend work) may be required depending upon project demand. Some assignments require intermittent 24-hour on-call duty, working as part of a larger team that performs work 24 hours/day, including a night shift (typically 7 am and 7 pm).
