Job Description Job Title: Driver Helper Job Description The Driver Helper supports the Driver in all aspects of product delivery to customer sites, ensuring orders arrive safely, accurately, and on time. This role involves frequent heavy lifting, safe loading and unloading of doors, windows, trim, fittings, and other building products, and providing excellent customer service as the on-site representative of the company. Responsibilities • Assist the Driver with all phases of product delivery to customer sites in a safe, efficient, and professional manner by following established company procedures., • Physically load trucks at the warehouse and unload materials at customer job sites, including doors, windows, trim, fittings, and other large products., • Verify and help ensure accurate delivery of customer orders to the correct house, building, or jobsite location., • Use proper loading and unloading techniques to protect personal safety, safeguard coworkers, and prevent damage to products., • Operate and properly use equipment such as ramps, load-locks, straps, and hand trucks to secure loads and minimize maintenance costs., • Provide courteous and responsive customer service at delivery sites, acting as a positive and professional representative of the company., • Assist the Driver by spotting potential hazards, monitoring surroundings, and providing directions as needed while driving or maneuvering the vehicle., • Organize and properly store equipment and supplies on the truck to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work area., • Perform and assist with truck checklists to confirm all required safety equipment and supplies are present and in working order., • Keep the cab and cargo area of the delivery truck clean, orderly, and free of debris., • Assist during roadside or on-site emergencies, including deploying road flares, warning triangles, or other safety devices as needed., • Support other operational areas as requested, including general warehouse or production tasks related to loading and handling materials. Essential Skills • Ability to safely perform heavy lifting on a regular basis, including large doors and bundles of mouldings, consistently throughout the shift and up to 100 pounds., • Experience with loading and unloading materials in a warehouse, production, or delivery environment., • Familiarity with basic driving and assisting in navigation and hazard spotting for box trucks or similar vehicles., • Ability to use material handling equipment such as ramps, load-locks, straps, and hand trucks safely and effectively., • Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers at job sites., • Comfort working in a physical, hands-on role involving repetitive lifting and movement., • Basic understanding of safety practices in a warehouse and delivery setting, including the use of safety equipment., • Reliability and attention to detail to ensure accurate delivery of orders to the correct locations. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working in a warehouse production environment, particularly with building materials such as doors and mouldings., • Operating or working around forklifts in a warehouse or manufacturing setting., • Familiarity with box truck loading, securing loads, and assisting drivers during transport., • Comfort working around sawdust and other wood products in a manufacturing environment., • Ability to maintain an organized truck and work area, including proper storage of tools and equipment. Work Environment This role is based in a warehouse production environment within a manufacturing facility that produces doors, mouldings, and related wood products. You will frequently work around sawdust and other wood materials and will regularly handle large, heavy items such as doors and bundles of mouldings throughout your shift, often up to 100 pounds. The position involves working in and around box trucks, loading docks, and production areas, with a strong emphasis on safety, organization, and cleanliness in both the warehouse and the truck’s cab and cargo areas. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
