Job DescriptionPosition Summary We are seeking a highly analytical and technically skilled Quality Control Engineer to support precision mechanical assemblies within a semiconductor cleanroom manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining quality systems, driving defect reduction initiatives, overseeing inspection strategies, and ensuring all assemblies meet engineering, regulatory, and cleanliness standards. A key component of this role includes programming, operating, and optimizing Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMMs) to validate dimensional accuracy of precision components and assemblies. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, hands-on quality engineering experience, and expertise in advanced metrology systems. Quality Systems & Process Control • Develop, implement, and maintain quality control plans for mechanical assemblies and subassemblies., • Establish inspection criteria, sampling plans, and acceptance standards., • Define and monitor critical quality attributes (CQAs) and key process indicators (KPIs)., • Ensure compliance with ISO standards, semiconductor cleanroom protocols, and ESD requirements.CMM Programming & Metrology, • Program, operate, and maintain Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMMs) for precision dimensional inspection., • Develop and validate CMM inspection routines based on engineering drawings and GD&T requirements., • Analyze CMM data to identify trends, variation, and potential process deviations., • Perform measurement system analysis (MSA) and gauge R&R studies for metrology equipment., • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Design Engineering to improve dimensional stability and tolerance control.Inspection & Validation Oversight, • Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection strategies for mechanical assemblies., • Review inspection data and ensure dimensional compliance to engineering specifications., • Approve First Article Inspections (FAI) and support production readiness reviews., • Establish and maintain calibration schedules for precision measurement equipment.Root Cause & Corrective Actions, • Lead structured root cause investigations (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, etc.) for dimensional and quality defects., • Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to eliminate recurring mechanical or process issues., • Support containment strategies and risk mitigation plans., • Partner with Production Engineering to improve process capability (Cp, Cpk).Cleanroom & Contamination Control, • Ensure mechanical assemblies meet semiconductor cleanliness and contamination-control standards., • Evaluate material compatibility and dimensional stability in cleanroom environments., • Monitor ESD compliance and mechanical integrity within controlled builds.Documentation & Compliance, • Maintain quality documentation including control plans, PFMEA, inspection procedures, CMM programs, and validation records., • Support internal and external audits., • Review and approve Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) from a quality and dimensional control perspective., • Ensure traceability and configuration management compliance.Customer Interface, Audit, & Cross-Regional Support • Support customer quality meetings, technical reviews, and audit discussions as required., • Provide data-driven responses to customer inquiries regarding inspection results, process capability, and corrective actions., • Support internal and external quality audits., • Participate in cross-regional meetings across multiple time zones as business needs require, with flexibility to support customer schedules. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field, • 4+ years of quality engineering experience in precision mechanical assembly or semiconductor manufacturing, • Demonstrated experience programming and operating Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMMs), • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and dimensional metrology, • Experience with SPC, PFMEA, control plans, MSA, and quality data analysis, • Hands-on experience leading root cause investigations and CAPA implementation, • Familiarity with ISO-controlled environments and cleanroom standards, • Knowledge of ESD and contamination control practices, • Strong analytical, technical documentation, and cross-functional communication skills Preferred Qualifications • Experience in semiconductor capital equipment manufacturing, • Certification as a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma certification, • Experience with advanced metrology software (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar CMM platforms), • Knowledge of chemical compatibility and materials used in semiconductor cleanroom environments, • Experience supporting supplier quality and dimensional validation programs, • Ability to support customer meetings and cross-functional reviews across multiple time zones, with schedule flexibility based on customer and business needs. Work Environment This position operates within a semiconductor cleanroom manufacturing environment and requires adherence to strict contamination control, gowning, and ESD protocols. The role includes hands-on interaction with precision metrology equipment and regular time spent supporting production on the manufacturing floor.
