Job Description Position Summary The Senior Sales Manager is responsible for the full spectrum of B2B sales operations at Portofino International — from strategic account ownership and team leadership to day-to-day order management and ecommerce channel performance. This is a player-coach role: you will personally manage approximately 10 key wholesale accounts while leading, coaching, and holding accountable a team of sales representatives. The ideal candidate bridges the traditional world of wholesale distribution (showrooms, trade shows, catalogs, relationship selling) with modern digital commerce (marketplace management, B2B/B2C websites, online merchandising). You are data-driven, energized by removing obstacles, and thrive in a fast-paced wholesale environment where relationships and execution both matter. Key Responsibilities 1. Sales Leadership & Team Management • Lead, coach, and develop a team of inside and outside sales representatives through regular 1:1s, ride-alongs (in-person and virtual), joint sales calls, and formal performance reviews., • Set individual and team sales targets; track performance against quota weekly and monthly., • Hire, onboard, and when necessary, discipline or separate underperforming team members in coordination with HR/ownership., • Foster a high-accountability, customer-first sales culture grounded in product knowledge, follow-through, and hustle., • Create and maintain sales playbooks, call scripts, and objection-handling guides appropriate for wholesale buyers. 2. Key Account Management (~10 Accounts) • Personally own and manage approximately 10 strategic wholesale accounts, serving as their primary Portofino point of contact., • Conduct regular account reviews, identify growth opportunities, present new product lines, and negotiate terms within approved parameters., • Collaborate with purchasing to ensure key accounts are prioritized for new arrivals and back-in-stock notifications., • Develop annual account plans with revenue goals, seasonal initiatives, and catalog/event alignment., • Resolve escalated service or order issues promptly, keeping senior leadership informed as needed. 3. Traditional Sales Channel Management • Oversee and participate in in-person showroom sales and customer visits at the Commerce, CA facility., • Manage and support outside sales representatives — define territories, set call frequency expectations, accompany reps on strategic customer visits, and ensure pipeline activity is logged and followed up., • Lead trade show planning and execution: booth strategy, staffing, pre-show outreach, and post-show follow-up., • Drive printed catalog utilization — ensure reps are using the annual catalog effectively in prospecting and selling, and coordinate with operations on catalog-driven campaigns., • Manage and optimize phone and email sales workflows; ensure response time SLAs are consistently met. 4. Ecommerce & Digital Channel Oversight • Understand the ecommerce landscape as it relates to wholesale customers and direct-to-consumer (B2C) channels including Amazon, Walmart, Wayfair, Faire, eBay, and Etsy., • Collaborate with the Operations/IT team on marketplace performance, product content quality, and promotional strategy., • Support the rollout and adoption of the new Magento 2 B2B website — serve as a sales voice in configuration decisions and drive rep and customer adoption post-launch., • Identify digital sales opportunities (new marketplace listings, B2B portal self-service features) and champion their execution. 5. Order Flow & Sales Operations Management • Own the health of the order pipeline — ensure all orders are moving, no aging or stalled orders fall through the cracks, and customers are proactively communicated with on delays., • Work closely with outbound shipping/warehouse to prioritize fulfillment for key accounts and expedited requests., • Partner with accounting on credit holds, payment terms, COD approvals, and collections escalations., • Monitor open order reports daily; escalate aging or at-risk orders to the appropriate parties., • Ensure orders are entered accurately and promptly; enforce SOPs for order documentation. 6. KPI Ownership & Reporting • Define, track, and report on key sales KPIs: revenue vs. target, average order value, new account acquisition, account retention/churn, order cycle time, and fill rate., • Deliver a weekly sales snapshot and monthly scorecard to the Operations Manager and CEO., • Use data to identify trends, flag risks, and propose corrective action., • Maintain CRM data hygiene — ensure all customer interactions, pipelines, and account notes are accurately logged. Qualifications Required • 5+ years of B2B wholesale sales experience, including at least 2 years in a sales management or team lead role., • Demonstrated success managing key accounts and hitting revenue targets in a product-based wholesale environment., • Working knowledge of ecommerce marketplace operations (Amazon Seller Central, Walmart Marketplace, Faire, or similar)., • Experience managing order pipelines in an ERP or order management system (SalesPad/GP, QuickBooks, NetSuite, or equivalent)., • Proven ability to coach and develop a sales team — you can articulate what "good" looks like and hold people to it., • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable selling to buyers at all levels., • Highly organized with a bias toward follow-through — nothing falls through the cracks on your watch. Preferred • Experience in gifts, crafts, party supplies, seasonal goods, or a closely adjacent wholesale product category., • Trade show experience — TSNN, ASD, NY NOW, or similar wholesale/gift industry events., • Familiarity with Magento, Shopify, or another B2B/B2C ecommerce platform., • Bilingual English/Spanish is a strong plus given our customer base.
