Job Description Job Summary: Sacred Hearts Academy is a Catholic, college‑preparatory school dedicated to educating and empowering girls and young women to become compassionate leaders in their communities and the world. Under the general direction of the Principal, the High School English Teacher supports this mission by designing and delivering engaging, standards‑aligned instruction in literature, composition, grammar, and language development. The successful candidate will foster a classroom environment that promotes critical thinking, close reading, analytical writing, and effective communication across a range of texts and genres. The teacher is expected to thoughtfully plan instruction that responds to students’ varied strengths, learning styles, and academic experiences, using flexible and creative teaching strategies to support student growth and confidence. Responsibilities include assessing student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to the life of the Academy through collaboration with colleagues, participation in school initiatives, and modeling the values of faith, excellence, and service. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or closely related field from an accredited institution., • One year of experience teaching English at the Middle or High School Level - OR, • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the requirements listed above., • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), • Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work outside normal business hours, if necessary., • Must be able to understand, read/ write in English to follow basic instructions, and take, direction from supervisors and clients., • Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with Virtus/Safe Environment policy., • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to effectively train others., • Able to work all shifts and extended hours., • Master's degree in English, Education, or a related field., • Valid Hawaii State Teaching License (or eligibility to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe)., • 3 years of experience teaching English at the High School level., • Thorough knowledge of the subject area(s) to be taught and ability to develop interdisciplinary curriculum related to subject matter., • Knowledge of instructional methods that are age appropriate for assigned grade levels., • Ability to work with and encourage students in the assigned grade levels toward accomplishing their personalized educational goals., • Ability to differentiate and personalize instruction to meet varying student needs., • Manage small and large groups of students in various instructional environments., • Communicate effectively with students, parents, counselors, and school administrators., • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, in multi-aged environments., • Good interpersonal and communication skills; strong organization skills; handling multiple tasks and projects, and good judgement., • Demonstrated ability to protect and maintain confidential information., • Familiarity with, or a demonstrated willingness to support, Catholic education, mission‑driven teaching, and an all‑girls learning environment., • Classroom Management (70%), • Support student learning and development through effective written, verbal, and hands-on instruction, coaching, and positive role modeling., • Prepare, implement, and perform well-structured lesson plans aligned with curriculum objectives, student needs, and school expectations., • Deliver engaging instruction that promotes critical thinking, skill development, and active participation., • Work collaboratively and professionally with administration and fellow faculty members., • Assume responsibility for the instruction, academic progress, and overall development of assigned students., • Maintain immediate supervision and ensure the safety of students during class time, advisory periods, assigned supervision duties, and on- and off-campus school activities or excursions., • Review, address, and administer appropriate corrective measures in cases of student misconduct in accordance with school policies., • Establish and maintain expectations for respectful, mannerly, and responsible student behavior., • Recognize and respect individual differences among students and develop instructional plans and accommodations to meet diverse learning needs., • Attend and actively participate in all required faculty, department, and parent-teacher meetings., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment conducive to learning., • Uphold high standards of professional and personal conduct, including appropriate online and digital presence., • Communicate with students via email or phone strictly for school-related matters and in accordance with school guidelines., • Participate in conferences or consultation meetings with parents and students to address academic progress, concerns, or classroom-related matters., • Teachers of Grades 7–12 will fulfill supervisory duties during recess, lunch periods, and auto-line as assigned by the Administration., • Serve as an advisor to one student club or organization, as assigned or as needed., • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, coursework, and assessments; submit evaluations, report cards, and grade updates according to established timelines., • Distribute, collect, and manage required forms, records, and school-related correspondence., • School Activities (20%), • Responsible to attend all masses and faculty meetings; where applicable teacher will attend faculty in-service training sessions, retreats, assemblies, and school functions to include: Academy ceremonies such as graduation, Baccalaureate Mass, Commencement, Spring Open House, Fall Open House, Faculty Beginning of the School Year In-Service, Faculty Retreat, Mass of the Holy Spirit, Annual Conference for Catholic Educators, Faith Formation, admissions testing, parent events and supervision of Academy-sponsored student events such as dances, Freshman Mother/Daughter Banquet, Sophomore Father/Daughter; Junior Prom, Senior Prom, Senior Ohana Luncheon, Academy Uncorked, and performances., • Administrative (5%), • Prepare lessons plans., • Keep accurate records of attendance and class work, submitting student evaluations, including report cards and grade updates, at scheduled times., • Distribute and collect required forms, records, or correspondence., • Performs other related duties as assigned (5%), • Serves as community relations liaison for company., • Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments., • Assist with seasonal peaks.
