As a Senior Paralegal, you'll work independently on complex legal matters while partnering with attorneys to support high-exposure litigation throughout New York. What You'll Do As a Senior Paralegal, you will provide advanced litigation and legal support with minimal supervision. You'll assist attorneys throughout the life cycle of complex cases, from initial file review through trial preparation and resolution. Key responsibilities include: • Conducting legal research and analyzing statutes, regulations, court decisions, and case law, • Drafting legal correspondence, pleadings, motions, subpoenas, discovery responses, and other litigation-related documents, • Managing discovery, including document collection, review, analysis, and production, • Preparing medical chronologies, litigation summaries, and case evaluations, • Coordinating with experts, witnesses, opposing counsel, clients, and courts, • Maintaining electronic case files and utilizing case management systems to efficiently track litigation activity, • Supporting trial preparation, attendance, and management of trial exhibits and presentation materials, • Assisting with file openings, closings, scheduling, calendaring, and overall case administration, • Compiling and responding to regulatory requests, interrogatories, and discovery demands, • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, organization, and file management practices This position supports Nationwide's New York Specialized Team, which handles complex, high-value litigation matters. Ideal candidates will have experience managing cases involving: • New York Labor Law, • Product Liability, • Construction Defect, • Complex Property Damage, • Premises Liability, • Motor Vehicle Liability, • Catastrophic Injury Claims, • Environmental and Toxic Tort Claims, • Commercial Trucking Litigation, • Federal Court Actions, • Liquor Liability / Dram Shop Claims The successful candidate will be comfortable handling files from inception through resolution and have the ability to draft basic discovery motions, with the desire and capability to develop more advanced motion practice skills. Qualifications Required • 5+ years of litigation paralegal experience with demonstrated success handling complex cases, • Strong knowledge of civil litigation procedures and legal research, • Experience managing case files from start to finish, • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills, • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple deadlines independently, • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, • Experience with legal case management systems and electronic file management Preferred • Bachelor's degree or coursework in Business Administration, Insurance, Legal Studies, or a related field, • Paralegal certification, • Knowledge of New York state and federal court filing requirements, • Experience supporting high-exposure or complex insurance defense litigation What Makes You Successful • Proactive and detail-oriented approach to file management, • Strong written and verbal communication skills, • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and legal professionals, • Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities, • Commitment to delivering exceptional client service and legal support Additional Information • Full-time position (38.75 hours weekly), • Overtime eligible (non-exempt), • Hybrid office environment with occasional travel as needed, • Primary locations: Garden City, NY or Elmsford, NY #LI-Hybrid #LegalCareers #ParalegalJobs #LitigationParalegal #NationwideCareers ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ADA: The above statements cover what are generally believed to be principal and essential functions of this job.
