Job Description Job Title: Structural Welder Job Description This role focuses on structural welding in a high-production fabrication shop, performing MIG and flux core welding on carbon steel in multiple positions while working from clean, code-compliant prints. You will set up and operate welding equipment, interpret blueprints and measurements, and ensure high-quality welds in a steady, growth-oriented environment with both day and night shift options. Responsibilities • Perform structural welding using MIG and flux core processes on carbon steel components in vertical (3G), overhead, horizontal, and other required positions., • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and tape measurements to plan layouts, fit-ups, and welding procedures accurately., • Determine and select appropriate welding equipment, settings, and methods based on job requirements and specifications., • Set up components for welding according to specifications, including cutting material with powered saws to match required measurements., • Operate angle grinders to prepare joints and parts for welding, including cleaning, beveling, and smoothing as needed., • Align components using calipers, rulers, and other measuring tools, and clamp pieces securely to ensure accurate fit and alignment before welding., • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to code and shop standards., • Grind welds to achieve required finish, remove imperfections, and prepare assemblies for inspection or further fabrication., • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to identify flaws, defects, or nonconformities and make necessary corrections., • Set and adjust amperage and voltage on welding machines to achieve proper penetration, bead profile, and weld quality., • Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work area in safe, clean, and functional condition, promptly reporting any issues., • Work collaboratively within a structural welding shop on a multi-building campus, supporting production goals and meeting deadlines., • Proficient MIG welding experience with the ability to weld in 3G (vertical), overhead, and horizontal positions., • Ability to pass a 3G MIG weld test on 3/8-inch carbon plate, welded out completely., • Ability to pass a 4G MIG weld test on a 24-inch-wide, 1/4-inch plate, welded out completely with visible starts and stops., • At least 8 months of welding experience in a structural welding shop environment., • Hands-on experience with flux core welding in structural applications., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and layout documents., • Strong tape measure reading skills and accurate measurement-taking capabilities., • Knowledge and ability to set amperage and voltage on welding machines to match welding procedures and material requirements., • Experience operating angle grinders to prepare and finish welds and components., • Capability to align and fit structural components using calipers, rulers, and clamps., • Ability to grind welds to meet quality and appearance standards., • Structural fitting experience in an industrial or structural fabrication setting is preferred., • Experience as a structural welder/fitter with 2 or more years in structural welding and fitting is highly valued., • Experience in industrial or production welding environments., • Familiarity with working from clean, code-compliant prints and procedures., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, code-compliant welds. Work Environment The role is based in a structural welding shop located on a multi-building (10-building) campus. The facility operates multiple shifts, including a first shift running Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and a second shift running Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., with a shift differential provided for night work. The shop is non-climate-controlled, so temperatures will vary with the seasons. You will work with MIG and flux core welding equipment, powered saws, angle grinders, and standard measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and rulers. The environment is production-oriented and focused on structural welding and fabrication, with a strong emphasis on safety and adherence to welding codes and standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Tulsa, OK. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $25.00/hr.
