Boston, MA Jan 16, 2026 Assistant Professor: $108,000-$162,000 per year, depending on experience; Associate Professor: $120,000-$200,000 per year, depending on experience; Professor: $156,000-$312,500, per year, depending on experience The Tufts University School of Medicine's Department of Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenured faculty appointment at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications for the developing accelerated Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program in Boston, MA to serve as the Director of Student Affairs (DSA) for the DPT Program. This seven-semester DPT program is a blend of online and on-campus activities, which allows the faculty member to live remotely to the Tufts School of Medicine Boston location. However, DPT faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Boston, MA, for designated periods each semester. The successful candidate is expected to enhance current teaching and mentoring activities within the DPT program, as well as develop a scholarly agenda and participate in community and professional service appropriate for a university faculty member. The DSA is expected to the develop and oversee the student coaching and mentoring activities within the DPT program. They should promote student success, particularly in preparation for the NPTE, while fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment and offering pathways for professional leadership, service engagement, and lifelong learning. The ideal candidate should be able to relate well with students and create a sense of belonging. The DSA is responsible for student-related events like orientation and graduation as well as student progression, retention, and coaching. DSA responsibilities include forming coaching groups for each DPT cohort, facilitating election of student leaders, training faculty coaches and ensuring ongoing faculty compliance with the program. The DSA must work to integrate all students into Tufts University School of Medicine culture and serves as the primary point of contact for student issues related to distance learning life. The DSA will also serve as the DPT program liaison with Tufts University School of Medicine Office of Graduate Student Services. Additionally, the DSA will work with advisors, course faculty, and students to address academic and non-academic issues. The DSA serves as Chair of the Ethics and Promotions Committee, which oversees student advisement, academic progression, retention, professional behaviors, remediation, and scholarship and awards. This Committee is also responsible for maintaining program-related policies and procedures. The DSA provides recommendations to the Program Director and faculty for informed decision-making. Teaching and Education Responsibilities: Teach courses as agreed upon with the Program Director, DPT Program Service Responsibilities: Refer to appropriate faculty rank within the School of Medicine Faculty Handbook (included but not limited to Tufts University, School of Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, DPT Program, professional, and community service) Scholarship Responsibilities: Refer to appropriate faculty rank within the School of Medicine Faculty Handbook Practice Responsibilities: Refer to appropriate faculty rank within the School of Medicine Faculty Handbook Essential Tasks and Functions Teach courses as agreed upon with the Program Director, Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Essential Tasks and Functions of the DSA: 1. Coordinates student selection activities with Director of Admission, to include application review, selection for interview, final student selection and enrollment offer, 2. Welcomes students into the DPT program immediately following enrollment offer acceptance and before orientation, 3. Coordinates and oversees the student development program to include: a. Administration of emotional intelligence, strengths, grit, and communication and learning style assessments at entry, mid-point and before graduation b. Oversees the process of constructing students' "personal fitness" scorecard based on assessment scores and matched strategies for success and improvement c. Providing developmental resources related to positive psychology best practices for graduate DPT students d. Matching of students with both faculty advisors and peer support partners e. Ensuring student advisement and counseling supports their professional development and is completed in accordance with established policies and procedures 4. Coordinates and oversees the clinical coaching and mentoring program to include: a. Identifying and selecting clinicians to serve as clinical coaching mentors b. Matching of students with a clinical coach and mentor as part of the Student mentor program with a best-fit strategy c. Supporting clinical coaching mentors with developmental resources related to teaching, coaching and mentoring best practices 5. Serves as program liaison with the Tufts University Student Services., 6. Provides for Student Services support during onsite immersive lab experiences, 7. Oversees the academic and professional behavior performance of students, to include grade reporting; academic progression, retention, withdrawal, and dismissal; professional conduct, self- and peer-evaluations, and election of class officers., 8. Coordinates and conducts student orientation and graduation functions., 9. Directs departmental staff/support personnel who assist with student affairs and records administration (i.e., DPT Administrative Coordinator)., 10. Coordinates all activities of the Student Affairs Committee., 11. Plans and conducts all Administration Committee meetings, 12. Coordinates the ongoing development and review of regulations, policies, and procedures that meet accreditation standards and achieve program goals and expected outcomes, to include: a. Program mission, goals, and objectives b. Student, faculty, and program policies and procedures as reflected in the DPT Student Handbook and DPT Policy and Procedure Manual c. Consider faculty input and makes recommendations to the Committee regarding changes to program policies and procedures 13. Provides primary Committee oversight to the following components of the Program Assessment Plan and CAPTE Self Study Report: Program Mission, Program Goals and Objectives, Policies and Procedures, Core and Associated Faculty, and Program Resources., 14. Coordinates all functions of the Academic Standards and Progression Committee., 15. Ensures all policies, procedures, and practices are following accreditation standards. The ideal candidate will have an academic doctorate and previous experience working closely with students. Candidates with a DPT and American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certification or certification credentials appropriate for their teaching responsibilities will also be considered. This individual works closely with the Tufts University School of Medicine Office of Graduate Student Services. This position, like all Tufts DPT faculty positions, is a non-tenure track faculty position with salary and rank commensurate with qualifications. Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate the potential to become independent investigators and teachers. If candidates seek the rank of Associate Professor or higher, they must have a proven track record of scholarship and graduate student advising and teaching at the Doctoral level. The candidate should be licensed in or eligible for licensure in their state of residence.
