We are currently seeking a Mechanical Group Leader (HVAC) to join our Engineering team. About the Role The Mechanical Group Leader serves as the technical leader and resource coordinator for the HVAC engineering workgroup. This role combines strong technical leadership with operational oversight, team development, and project delivery accountability. Working closely with Project Managers, Project Leaders, Engineering leadership, and cross-disciplinary teams, the Group Leader ensures high engineering quality, efficient resource utilization, and timely, cost-effective project execution. This is a key leadership position for someone who enjoys mentoring technical staff, driving engineering excellence, and contributing to firmwide standards and innovation. Key Responsibilities Operations & Team Leadership • Direct day-to-day work of mechanical technical staff, including coordination of assignments and workload planning., • Manage group-level project schedules and support delivery within budget and timeline expectations., • Partner with Engineering leadership to monitor project progress, team needs, and resource planning., • Conduct performance management and annual appraisals for group technical staff in collaboration with leadership., • Support employee training, mentoring, and professional development initiatives. Technical Leadership • Provide technical oversight and guidance across schematic design, production, and construction administration phases., • Lead discipline QA/QC reviews to ensure compliance with firm standards, codes, and best practices., • Mentor engineers and designers to support technical growth and leadership development., • Contribute to engineering standards, BIM/design workflows, and firmwide technical initiatives., • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the group. Project Delivery • Guide group staff through design and documentation phases, providing technical and professional direction., • Coordinate discipline resources across locations and time zones to meet project goals., • Serve as Project Leader or Project Manager on select projects as required., • Act as responsible agent on commissioning and construction management projects., • Participate in construction meetings, field investigations, and site visits as needed. Client & Business Development • Support business development efforts through client meetings and opportunity interviews., • Maintain strong relationships with client facility teams and project stakeholders., • Participate in external outreach, industry organizations, and thought leadership initiatives to enhance firm visibility. Knowledge & Experience Required • Bachelors degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology., • 8+ years of applicable HVAC/MEP engineering experience., • EIT/FE preferred; PE strongly preferred., • Experience mentoring or supervising technical staff preferred., • Extensive knowledge of HVAC design principles, construction practices, and applicable codes., • Strong proficiency in CAD and Revit/BIM workflows., • Demonstrated communication, collaboration, and mentorship skills., • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams. Physical Requirements • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer., • Ability to conduct field investigations and construction site visits.
