Job Description Armed Campus Safety Officer Position Summary The Armed Campus Safety Officer is responsible for helping maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, visitors, and school property. This position provides a visible security presence, conducts campus patrols, manages access points, responds to emergencies, and supports school activities and events. The officer must use professionalism, sound judgment, de-escalation, and appropriate communication when interacting with students and members of the school community. The firearm is carried for the protection of life and may only be used when legally justified and consistent with school policy and training. Essential Duties • Patrol classrooms, offices, parking areas, athletic facilities, residential properties, and campus perimeters., • Monitor entrances, gates, visitor check-in areas, and restricted locations., • Verify visitors, contractors, vendors, and delivery personnel., • Respond to medical emergencies, fires, fights, suspicious activity, threats, alarms, and other safety incidents., • Support lockdowns, evacuations, shelter-in-place procedures, earthquake drills, and fire drills., • Use verbal de-escalation and conflict-resolution techniques whenever possible., • Assist with student arrival, dismissal, traffic control, parking, athletic events, and special events., • Identify and report hazards, unsecured areas, damaged equipment, and suspicious behavior., • Contact law enforcement, fire personnel, or emergency medical services when necessary., • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely incident reports., • Preserve evidence and cooperate with administrative or law-enforcement investigations., • Maintain control and security of all issued equipment, including firearms, radios, keys, body cameras, and access devices., • Follow all school policies, post orders, emergency procedures, and directions from supervisors. Minimum Qualifications • Must be at least 21 years old., • High school diploma or equivalent., • Valid California BSIS Security Guard Registration., • Valid California BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit., • Legally eligible to possess and carry a firearm., • Valid California driver’s license with an acceptable driving record., • Current CPR, first aid, and AED certification, or ability to obtain certification., • Ability to pass a criminal background investigation and employment screening., • Strong communication, observation, de-escalation, and report-writing skills., • Ability to work professionally and appropriately around children and young adults., • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies. Preferred Qualifications • Previous experience in school security, law enforcement, military service, emergency management, corporate security, or a related field., • Experience working in a K–12 school environment., • Training in emergency response, active-assailant response, Incident Command System, and crisis intervention., • Experience using CCTV, access-control systems, radios, and body-worn cameras. Physical and Scheduling Requirements • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods., • Ability to patrol indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions., • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and assist injured individuals., • Must be available to work mornings, evenings, weekends, athletic events, school functions, and occasional holidays. The officer must maintain all required licenses, permits, certifications, and firearms qualifications throughout employment.
