Job Description YOUR IMPACT This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. At the Y, we purposefully engage members throughout their health and wellness journeys. Group exercise is one of many ways the Y supports members on their path to achieving health and wellness goals. The Group Fitness Instructor teaches class in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES • Leads energizing and engaging group exercise classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals., • Supports members in achieving their fitness goals. Maintains working knowledge of health and wellness and current trends to provide effective information and support to members., • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members. Helps members connect with each other and the YMCA., • Keeps accurate class attendance records., • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations., • Attends staff meetings and training to stay current with latest fitness trends and educational information., • Instructs your scheduled class at least 90% of each quarterly session. When unable to work, instructors are responsible for securing their substitutes via Healthy Living protocol and tools., • Creates a noncompetitive and inclusive atmosphere., • Assesses each class to determine participants’ ability to follow your instructions. Adjust the workout to the various skill levels of class participants. Offer exercise options frequently., • Changes music and movements frequently. Aims to provide classes that foster member retention., • Ensures wellness spaces are attractive, clean and safe by dust mopping, disinfecting all used equipment, and cleaning mirrors., • Ensures a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming., • Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly. Position 1: Northeast Family YMCA Part Time, Non-Exempt Yoga Instructor Schedule Varies $15.00-$20.00 per hour The base wage is $15.00 per hour. Instructors are eligible for additional compensation of $1.00 per hour for professional certifications held for classes they teach at the YMCA. Position 2: SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA Part Time, Non-Exempt Yoga Instructor Schedule Varies $15.00-$20.00 per hour The base wage is $15.00 per hour. Instructors are eligible for additional compensation of $1.00 per hour for professional certifications held for classes they teach at the YMCA. Position 3: SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA Part Time, Non-Exempt Zumba Instructor Schedule Varies $15.00-$20.00 per hour The base wage is $15.00 per hour. Instructors are eligible for additional compensation of $1.00 per hour for professional certifications held for classes they teach at the YMCA. Position 4: SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA Part Time, Non-Exempt Turn Up Instructor Schedule Varies $15.00-$20.00 per hour The base wage is $15.00 per hour. Instructors are eligible for additional compensation of $1.00 per hour for professional certifications held for classes they teach at the YMCA. Position 5: Good Shepherd YMCA Part Time, Non-Exempt Urban Line Dance Instructor Schedule Varies $15.00-$20.00 per hour The base wage is $15.00 per hour. Instructors are eligible for additional compensation of $1.00 per hour for professional certifications held for classes they teach at the YMCA. QUALIFICATIONS • Certification in areas of expertise required., • National certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification required., • At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred., • CPR, AED and First Aid certifications required within 90 days., • Praesidium Academy trainings., • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
