Job Description Title: Peer Engagement Specialist Supervisor Position Type: Full Time Program: Crisis Response – 590 Grant Who we are: C4 was founded in 1972 to help people released from psychiatric hospitals into the Uptown and Edgewater communities stabilize in the community. Since that time, C4’s service area has expanded to rekindle hope for individuals and families on Chicago’s north and west sides, remaining committed to community-level, system-focused interventions; C4 always seeks to avoid restrictive levels of care and maximize families’ agency to lead their recovery, allowing them to heal in their homes and community. C4 is the leader in building hope and breaking down barriers – from the personal to the systemic - for Chicago’s systematically disadvantaged communities through the delivery of effective, empirically supported, and trauma-informed mental health services. C4 seeks to equip 7,000 individuals annually to help them move from trauma to living, to working and thriving within their community. Purpose: The purpose of the Peer Engagement Specialist Supervisor position is to provide programmatic leadership for the SASS Case Management team and to assist SASS and treatment teams in providing outreach, care coordination, aftercare services, and family/community support to consumers who receive applicable services. Supervisor will perform managerial duties that ensure the quality of case management work and empower staff to advance to further levels of competency. Supervisor will work to develop relationships with mental health service providers throughout the north and west sides of Chicago and suburbs. In a culturally aware and anti-racist manner, Supervisor will train case management staff to support consumers in achieving recovery via their personal and familial goals and preferences, support in emotion regulation and symptom management, and assist in identification and use of natural and community supports and resources while articulating C4’s mission and vision. Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field, • At least 2 years of case management experience preferred, • Personal vehicle, valid Illinois driver’s license, insurable driving record, and vehicle insurance is required Location and Work Conditions: The Peer Engagement Specialist Supervisor’s primary work location will be in an office setting at one of C4’s locations. However, Supervisor will also work at Chicago area hospitals and out in the community, primarily to provide onsite training and address staffing shortages. Work may be stressful due to consumer behaviors, periods of high call volume, or tight deadlines. Supervisor may be asked to work evenings and occasional holidays. Competencies (Minimum Skills, Knowledge and Experience): • Ability to be respectful of the diverse cultures of the people served and to provide culturally appropriate, competent, and individualized treatment according to each client's age, gender, race, ethnicity, and culture, • Clinical competencies, including Motivational Interviewing and verbal de-escalation techniques, as aligned with training mandated by agency, • Ability to use appropriate intervention techniques to positively impact consumer coping ability, • Understanding and use of personal and professional boundaries, • Ability to plan, develop and manage multiple projects, • Organizational skills, • Time and stress management skills, • Ability to work effectively on a team, • Conflict-resolution and diplomacy skills, • Computer literacy including Microsoft Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, etc., • Problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on person-centered approaches, • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral skills to communicate effectively with all levels of organizational leadership, employees, governmental and community representatives, and vendors, • Leadership experience including direct staff management, • Adherence to confidentiality practices and procedures, • Ability to present a positive image of C4 to clients and visitors Duties and Responsibilities: • Trains and supervises employees to procedures and case management functions, • Directs and oversees SASS case managers in functions of case management, outreach, care coordination and aftercare services, including but not limited to research and connection to internal and external services, psychoeducation and support in the community mental health system, navigation of human service and social support agencies, brief intervention and de-escalation approaches, and navigating level of care decisions related to psychiatric hospitalization and crisis assessment, • Coordinates daily with on-call Crisis Supervisor to assign and oversee time-sensitive tasks, including those related to facilitation of psychiatric hospitalization and crisis assessment, • Completes case management functions outlined above as necessitated by volume, • Ensures documentation quality, completion and compliance at all times, as well as monitors timelines and agency policies and procedures according to C4’s guidelines, • Manages C4 telepsychiatry navigation schedule to provide adequate coverage, • Is responsible for performance feedback and formal evaluation, and disciplinary action in consultation with direct supervisor, • Develops, coaches, guides, and determines individual performance expectations for direct reports, • Monitors, manages, and is accountable for productivity goal and concerns of direct reports, • Initiates, cultivates and maintains professional relationships within C4 to enhance communications, support, and service alignment, • Always maintains compliance with confidentiality policies and procedures, • Maintains positive and mutually respectful relationships with other human service providers, entitlement agencies, health care vendors, and the community, • Assists with outcome measures, • Attends administrative meetings and trainings, • Reports to assigned supervisor and actively seeks consultation whenever necessary or requested by supervisor., • Other duties as assigned by supervisor Equal Opportunity Statement Decisions and criteria governing the employment relationship with all employees at Community Counseling Centers of Chicago (C4) are made in a non-discriminatory manner, without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, pregnancy, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, veteran status, age, FMLA status, or any other factor determined to be unlawful by federal, state, or local statutes.
