Job DescriptionSalary: Premier Sport Psychology (PSP) is looking for an Athletic Counselor to join our dynamic and collaborative team. The position includes providing sport psychology services in multiple work settings both at a collegiate athletic department and in private practice, and will involve direct services for athletes, coaches, and teams to support both mental health and performance goals. Job Summary: Full-time, 12-month, Athletic Counselor (e.g., LPC, LPCC, LCSW, LMFT) masters-level position at Premier Sport Psychology (PSP) with opportunities to work with kids/teens/young adult athletes/performers of all levels in Edina, MN, as well as, likely an opportunity to work at the University of Minnesota Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in the Gopher Sport Psychology unit reporting to the Director of Sport Psychology Services on the Twin Cities campus. This individual will be responsible for conducting initial assessments, evidence-based brief- and long-term individual psychotherapy, crisis intervention, clinical consultation, mental health educational programming, and individual- and team-related mental performance interventions with PSPs clientele. Similar responsibilities will be required for 600+ varsity student-athletes, 21 varsity teams, coaches, administrators, and support staff within Gopher Athletics as a member of a 4-person Sport Psych team. The individual will collaborate with 20+ in-house sport psychology professionals at PSP, and design/deliver workshops, presentations and group sessions for teams, coaches, and staff both locally and around the country. This individual will be a point person for mental performance teamwork services for a select number of teams at the university (e.g. 2-3 teams) and expected to work closely as a member of a multidisciplinary medical team comprised of team physicians, orthopedic surgeons, PTs, psychiatrists, certified athletic trainers and sport dietitians. The individual will provide team consultation as needed and facilitate outreach about psychological skills that enhance well-being and performance. The individual will build and nurture strong relationships with clients and referral sources at PSP and in the university environment, as well as maintain timely clinical records of therapeutic and other client contact and adhere to both Minnesota and federal laws. Premier Sport Psychology is currently seeking qualified candidates with demonstrated experience and expertise serving youth and young adult athletes, as well as collegiate student-athletes, who come from a wide range of different backgrounds. This position requires frequent evening hours and occasional weekend duties, in order to best meet the needs of youth athletes ages 8 17yo and the requests of collegiate athletic departments. Sport psychology staff also frequently attend home competitions and other outreach events on evenings and weekends. Competencies: • Demonstrate strong?clinical skills and a well-integrated understanding of brief and long-term psychotherapy, evidence-based interventions, crisis intervention, consultation with other health care professionals, and outreach programming., • Knowledge and experience in providing mental health and performance psychology services to athletes, performers, coaches, parents, support staff and leadership/administrators., • Experience consulting with and working well within complicated sport systems and organizations, and ability to build excellent relationships with a wide variety of individuals and groups., • Demonstrate comfort and skill with using basic computer software (such as Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Teams, EPIC (other EHRs), Canva, Outlook as well as other Windows based programs). Education and Experience: • Hold a Masters degree in Counseling, Clinical Social Work, or related field in psychology from an APA accredited program., • 1-3 years post-graduate clinical experience in providing mental health services to athletes or serving as a primary mental health provider or sport psychology consultant., • Eligible for licensure in the State of Minnesota as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). Minnesota license must be obtained no later than 3 months after hire date. (i.e., at time of application, must have completed all licensure requirements including successfully passing any examinations and completing any clinical supervision hours required for licensure by the State of Minnesota)., • 1+ years of experience in applied sport psychology or mental performance consulting. CMPC certification preferred (or willingness to pursue), • Experience providing culturally responsive services to diverse populations, • Strong communicator, team-player, low-ego, and collaborator who thrives in a team-focused, high-performance environment with demanding service expectations., • Currently licensed in the State of Minnesota as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker., • Demonstrated experience and expertise serving student-athletes from a wide range of backgrounds., • Credentialed as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC), • Experience partnering effectively and collegially on an inter-disciplinary team in a university setting, other mental health agency and/or in private practice., • Knowledge and experience in providing performance psychology services to athletic populations and leaders., • Experience working with kids and teens (8 17yos) providing individual sport psychology services and navigating parental dynamics, family support and parent education., • Demonstrates knowledge and experience in working with athletes with eating, substance use, and/or trauma-related concerns., • Demonstrates commitment to co-create a community that fosters Premier Service, Passion, Gratitude, a Growth-mindset and a sense of Team. The salary range for the Athletic Counselor position is $80,000-95,000/year for full time role depending on experience, licensure, skills, credentials and internal equity.
