Job Description The Fiber Tester is responsible for testing and troubleshooting fiber optic cables to ensure optimal network performance. This role requires technical proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have fiber optic testing experience and a strong network infrastructure understanding. REQUIREMENTS • Perform testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic cables using equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and light sources., • Conduct fiber optic cable installations, including running, terminating, and testing fibers., • Used and maintained testing equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable results., • Interpret and follow technical documentation, schematics, and blueprints., • Conduct site surveys and assessments to determine optimal installation and testing methods., • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and company policies., • Document and report on all testing activities, including detailed records of test results and any issues identified., • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to complete projects on time and within budget., • Respond to emergency repair requests and outages as needed outside regular business hours., • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in fiber optics, telecommunications, or a related field preferred., • Ability to obtain a DOT health card., • Experience with driving bucket trucks and pulling attachments preferred., • Proficiency with fiber optic testing equipment, including OTDRs, power meters, and light sources., • Strong understanding of fiber optic network architecture and testing techniques., • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail., • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and documentation., • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with team members and customers., • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; ability to travel to various job sites as required., • Comply with all company safety programs, rules, regulations, procedures, and instructions applicable to his/her own actions and conduct., • Refrain from any unsafe act that might endanger him/herself or fellow workers., • Obey all posted company, state, and federal hazard and traffic safety signs., • Use all safety devices and personal protective equipment provided for their protection., • Report all hazards, incidents, and near-miss occurrences to their immediate supervisor or Director of Safety within 2 hours, even if no injury or property damage occurred., • Promptly report all injuries and suspected work-related illnesses, however slight, to his/her immediate supervisor or Director of Safety., • Employees who drive company vehicles must possess a valid and appropriate driver’s license for driving the vehicle, and employees who operate company equipment must be trained and authorized., • Employees operating company vehicles and equipment must comply with state and federal laws and regulations. Seat belt use is required while operating any company vehicle or equipment., • Texting while driving is prohibited by Dobson Fiber policy and State Law., • Participate in safety committee meetings, training sessions, and surveys as requested and provide input into improving safety., • Notify your supervisor or Human Resources immediately of any change in physical or mental condition or use of prescription drugs or illegal drugs that would affect the employee’s job performance or the safety of him/herself or others., • Working under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited at any company facility, workplace, worksite, or when operating any company vehicle or equipment. Any employee, contractor, or subcontractor who works or reports to work under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs will be subject to disciplinary action, including possible termination of employment or loss of contract., • Notify the Human Resources Director within five days of serious driving, drug/alcohol, or criminal convictions., • Be a safe worker on and off the job., • Help coworkers do their job safely., • Approach work with a safe attitude.
