Job Title: Civil Infrastructure Design Engineer (EV Charging) Location: Tyseley, Birmingham Job Type: Full-Time Department: Engineering / EV Infrastructure Reports To: Product Design & Engineering Manager About Us: Voltempo is developing rapid DC Hypercharging solutions for a range of commercial vehicle sectors, initially here in the UK, but progressively internationally as the transport sector electrifies. The company holds several international patents, it is engaged in the end-to-end design, supply, site commissioning and servicing of charging solutions, targeting commercial vehicles. The business is currently scaling and is well supported by both its international shareholders and its role under the UK Government eFreight2030 programme, where it is leading a consortium of UK logistics fleet operators to deploy the UK’s first eHGV charging network. Job Summary: We are seeking a Civil Infrastructure Design Engineer to lead the design and development of the civil and site infrastructure required for high-power Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) installations. This role will take ownership of the civil and infrastructure design for EV charging sites, including site layouts, cable ducting networks, trenching strategies, foundations, and supporting infrastructure required for installation of our HyperCharger and 3rd party EVSE. The successful candidate will work closely with DNOs, IDNOs, ICPs, contractors, and project teams to deliver practical and compliant infrastructure designs that minimise risk, cost and delivery schedule from concept through to construction. This is a hands-on technical role, requiring an engineer capable of working independently, leading civil design activities, and coordinating multidisciplinary stakeholders across multiple EV infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities Civil Infrastructure Design Leadership • Lead the civil and infrastructure design for EVSE installations, including:, • Cable ducting and trenching networks, • Charger and equipment foundations, • Access roads, hardstanding areas, and equipment bases, • Drainage considerations and groundworks, • Develop site layouts and infrastructure designs for our HyperCharger and 3rd party EVSE, • Produce and review detailed civil drawings, including:, • Duct routing layouts, • Trench cross-sections, • Foundation designs, • Conduct and/or manage site surveys and feasibility assessments to determine infrastructure requirements and constraints., • Evaluate ground conditions, access requirements, and construction considerations., • Take ownership of civil design deliverables across multiple projects., • Lead design reviews and value engineering to optimise constructability and cost., • Support preparation of method statements, risk assessments, and construction documentation., • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, contractors, and suppliers during design, installation, and commissioning., • Interface with the customer as required to facilitate an optimised design that meets their needs Qualifications & Experience Essential • BEng / BSc in Civil Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or related discipline., • Significant experience in civil infrastructure design., • Experience designing utility infrastructure, cable ducting, trenching, or similar civil works., • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (2D)., • Experience coordinating with utility providers or electrical infrastructure stakeholders., • Experience in EV charging infrastructure or energy infrastructure projects., • Experience working with or alongside DNOs, IDNOs, or ICPs., • Experience in renewables, highways, utilities, or power infrastructure., • Experience using Autodesk Inventor., • Knowledge of high-power charging systems and site planning for EV infrastructure. Key Skills & Competencies • Strong civil and infrastructure design capability, • Ability to translate engineering concepts into practical, buildable solutions, • Excellent CAD drawing and technical detailing skills, • Experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary infrastructure projects, • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities Working Conditions: · Hybrid role with office and site responsibilities. · Travel to various EV infrastructure sites across the region. · Occasional overnight stays depending on project location.
