We are looking for a Finance Manager to join our supportive and collaborative Finance Team as part of a job share arrangement. You’ll take lead responsibility for P&L and day‑to‑day accounting, supporting the Director of Finance and Resources to deliver a high‑quality, responsive finance service that underpins excellent patient care, strong governance and long‑term sustainability. In this role, you’ll help ensure The Kirkwood’s resources are managed with integrity, clarity and care. You’ll be responsible for day‑to‑day financial accounting, maintaining robust P&L integrity, and coordinating the capital programme for both the charity and its trading subsidiary. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the organisation, helping teams understand the financial impact of their work. You’ll also play an important role in year‑end processes, Gift Aid and VAT, asset and restricted fund management, and coordination of the Capital Programme Budget. You’ll be a qualified accountant (or bring equivalent demonstrable experience) with a strong background in financial accounting and statutory reporting. Care and support are also provided for their family members, friends, and carers, both during the illness and after death. Through education, training, and partnership with others, we improve care for everyone affected by a life‑limiting illness. • Produce financial schedules to meet statutory and internal reporting requirements., • Ensure accruals and pre‑payments are accounted for to the appropriate reporting periods., • Complete year‑end procedures including year‑end postings and reports., • Maintain all records and appropriate controls in accordance with The Kirkwood’s policy and legal obligations., • Manage the production of Gift Aid claims for submission to HMRC at least quarterly., • Ensure VAT liability has been paid over to HMRC in a timely manner for both the charity and its subsidiary., • Provide support and advice to departments on the implications of VAT and Gift Aid., • Assist the DFR and work with Finance colleagues to develop internal control systems for statutory compliance and auditors’ recommendations., • Work with Income Generation Teams to record income received, allocating to the correct income stream., • Assist the Director of Finance & Resources and the Finance Business Partner with the preparation of the annual budget for Trustees’ approval., • Produce ad‑hoc financial information and reports as requested, attending meetings to present them., • Maintain an accurate and up‑to‑date contracts register, recording, reviewing and monitoring all contract details, values, key dates, compliance requirements, and variations., • Lead the capital programme of expenditure, ensuring a coordinated approach with budget holders across the charity to keep spend within budgeted limits., • Maintain detailed schedules tracking all restricted funds, ensuring balances are reconciled and reflected in statutory reporting and in accordance with the Charities SORP., • Maintain detailed schedules tracking all grant funding, ensuring compliance with the Charities SORP., • Provide line management and day‑to‑day leadership for Finance Team members as directed (excluding the Finance Business Partner)., • Create a supportive, inclusive team environment that encourages learning, innovation and continuous improvement., • Ensure business continuity arrangements are in place to maintain service delivery., • Cover the other element of the job share when required, with priorities agreed with the Director of Finance and Resources., • Contribute finance expertise to internal meetings, projects and service developments., • Act as a key point of contact for auditors, HMRC, DWP, pension providers and other external bodies., • Build strong, positive relationships with colleagues across the organisation and with external partners, including other hospices., • Support the development of financial confidence and capability across The Kirkwood through training, coaching and advice., • Keep finance systems, processes and policies under review, driving improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency and insight., • Stay up to date with changes in financial legislation, best practice, and regulation, sharing knowledge with colleagues., • Participate fully in The Kirkwood’s learning and development activities, including mandatory training., • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality, data protection, equity, diversity and inclusion., • Work in accordance with The Kirkwood’s values – patients, families and carers are the focus of everything we do., • Participate in The Kirkwood’s performance and development review process., • Undertake any other duties required by The Kirkwood’s Management team commensurate with the post., • Undertake annual mandatory training provided by The Kirkwood., • Maintain complete confidentiality as a condition of employment; information may only be disclosed with express permission of the appropriate manager., • Respect the ethos and values of The Kirkwood and comply with policies, procedures and regulations., • Significant experience in financial accounting, including preparation of statutory accounts., • Knowledge and experience of payroll systems., • Significant finance/accounting experience., • Experience using integrated finance and payroll systems (e.g. Sage or similar)., • Experience working in a hospice, healthcare, or wider voluntary sector environment., • Involvement in financial audits, including direct liaison with external auditors., • Experience improving financial systems, processes or controls to enhance efficiency, accuracy or insight., • Experience working in a modern, digitally enabled workplace and supporting others to adopt new ways of working., • Experience supporting, mentoring or developing finance colleagues., • Track record of working collaboratively across departments to support organisational objectives., • Experience delivering training or briefing sessions to non‑finance colleagues., • Strong working knowledge of VAT, Gift Aid, payroll and pensions., • Knowledge of Charity SORP in practice, including treatment of legacies, restricted funds and designated reserves.
