Band 2 and Band 3 Care Support Worker – Job Summary (UK) Location: Various UK Sites Contract: Ongoing / Flexible / Permanent Hours: Full-time / Part-time / Shifts including Days, Nights and Weekends WE do not offer sponsorship These roles are essential in delivering safe, compassionate and high-quality care within healthcare, residential, or community settings across the UK. Both Band 2 and Band 3 Care Support Workers play a vital part in supporting service users with daily living needs while promoting dignity, independence and wellbeing. While Band 2 staff focus primarily on fundamental care under supervision, Band 3 staff undertake additional responsibilities, including delegated clinical duties and supporting junior colleagues. Band 2 Care Support Worker The Band 2 Care Support Worker provides direct personal care and practical support to individuals receiving care. Working under the supervision of registered nurses or senior care staff, the post holder ensures that service users are treated with respect, compassion, and dignity at all times. Key duties include assisting with personal care such as washing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, as well as supporting mobility and safe transfers using appropriate equipment. The role may involve helping individuals with feeding and hydration needs, ensuring nutritional requirements are met safely. Band 2 staff are responsible for maintaining accurate and timely care records, documenting interventions clearly, and reporting any changes in a service user’s physical or emotional condition to senior staff. They contribute to a safe and clean environment by following infection prevention and control procedures and adhering to health and safety standards. Emotional support and companionship are central to the role. Care Support Workers build positive, respectful relationships with service users and their families while maintaining professional boundaries. All tasks must be delivered in accordance with individual care plans, risk assessments, safeguarding principles, and confidentiality policies. Band 3 Senior Care Support Worker The Band 3 Senior Care Support Worker builds upon the Band 2 role by delivering enhanced care and taking on greater responsibility within the team. In addition to providing high-quality personal care, Band 3 staff undertake delegated clinical tasks and offer guidance and supervision to Band 2 colleagues. Working closely with registered nurses and multidisciplinary teams, the Band 3 post holder may perform clinical duties such as recording vital signs, undertaking ECGs, supporting wound care (where trained), and monitoring patients’ conditions. They contribute to implementing and updating care plans, ensuring care delivery remains person-centred and responsive to changing needs. Band 3 staff play a key role in escalation procedures, identifying and promptly reporting concerns to registered professionals. They are expected to maintain accurate documentation, including electronic patient records, and support processes such as admissions, transfers, and discharges. Leadership is a significant component of the role. Band 3 staff act as role models, providing day-to-day supervision, guidance, and informal mentoring to Band 2 team members. They may also contribute to audits, quality improvement initiatives, and maintaining high standards of safeguarding and infection prevention practices. Essential Requirements (Band 3) NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent qualification) Care Certificate Previous experience in a healthcare or support setting Competence in taking and recording basic clinical observations Strong written and verbal communication skills Enhanced DBS Right to work in the UK Desirable Requirements Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff Additional clinical skills training Experience within NHS or regulated care environments Key competencies include leadership, sound clinical skills within scope of practice, effective decision-making and escalation, organisational ability, and a strong commitment to delivering compassionate, person-centred care.
