Assistant Quantity Surveyor (M&E) Department: Commercial Reports To: Senior Quantity Surveyor Location: Office-Based (with site visits) Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm About the Role We are seeking a motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor (M&E) to join our Commercial team and support the successful delivery of multiple Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in quantity surveying within an M&E contracting environment. You will gain hands-on experience across procurement, cost control, valuations, and commercial administration, working closely with an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor. Job Purpose To support the Senior Quantity Surveyor in the effective commercial and cost management of multiple MEP subcontract projects, while developing core quantity surveying and commercial management skills. Key Responsibilities Health & Safety & Compliance • Comply with and actively promote company Health & Safety policies at all times, • Ensure compliance with all company procedures, systems, and protocols Procurement & Tendering • Assist in the procurement and commercial evaluation of subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants (labour-only and supply-only packages), • Support preparation of subcontract documentation and attend Part 2 meetings where required, • Assist in preparing Bills of Quantities, schedules, and tender comparison documents Measurement & Cost Control • Assist with measurement and take-off of M&E services from drawings and specifications, • Support measurement for interim valuations, variations, and final accounts, • Assist in preparing and maintaining Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), • Support identification, recording, and assessment of commercial changes for subcontractors and clients Payments & Commercial Administration • Assist in assessing payments to subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers, • Support preparation of labour-only payments, • Assist (subject to approval) with interim payment authorisations in line with company procedures, • Draft commercial correspondence for review by the Senior Quantity Surveyor, • Maintain accurate and up-to-date commercial records Project & Team Support • Liaise with site teams to support project delivery, • Attend design, procurement, commercial, and site meetings, • Take accurate meeting minutes when required, • Provide general commercial administrative support across multiple projects Skills & Competencies • Strong numerical and analytical skills, • Good understanding of Microsoft Excel, • Clear written and verbal communication skills, • Ability to work effectively within a team, • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks, • Basic understanding of M&E installations (mechanical/electrical), • Minimum 1 year experience in construction or M&E contracting (desirable) Package & Benefits • Salary: £50,000 – £55,000, • Pension: 8% employer contribution, • Annual Leave: 28 days (including bank holidays), • Travel Allowance, • Performance Bonus Scheme, • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), • Bright Exchange Discount Scheme Working Conditions • Office-based role with regular site visits, • Full-time position, Monday to Friday, • May require flexibility during tender periods and project deadlines, including occasional overtime, • Role and responsibilities may be subject to change in line with business needs
