Supply Chain Manager\n\nLocation: Manchester\n\nSalary: £50,000 – £60,000\n\nOverview\n\nThe Supply Chain Manager is responsible for managing subcontractors and key suppliers across construction projects. This role involves coordinating the pre-engagement evaluation process, maintaining and improving cost and rate structures, monitoring supplier performance, and managing supply chain data.\n\nThe successful candidate will take ownership of developing strong supply chain relationships and building long-term partnerships to support the successful delivery of projects.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nAssess and evaluate potential new subcontractors and suppliers through the established pre-engagement process.\n\nMaintain and update subcontractor and supplier records to ensure all information remains accurate and up to date, including scope of services, insurance, competency documentation, and any exclusions or restrictions.\n\nIdentify gaps within the supply chain and target suitable companies for engagement and approval, focusing on quality, health and safety, and value for money.\n\nNegotiate, establish, and improve subcontractor and supplier rates, ensuring current commercial information is maintained for use in the estimating process.\n\nWork closely with the Commercial team to provide guidance on procurement costs, rates, and market trends.\n\nSupport commercial improvement through strategic supply chain planning, developing and testing ideas and initiatives to enhance efficiency and value.\n\nReview tender costing proposals prior to submission for final approval.\n\nMonitor subcontractor and supplier performance using post-contract feedback from operations teams.\n\nBuild and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers, supporting improvement initiatives where required.\n\nDevelop and improve supplier engagement, evaluation, and monitoring processes.\n\nImplement strategies to improve value for money across the supply chain.\n\nSkills, Knowledge & Experience\n\nStrong understanding of construction-related laws, regulations, and industry standards relating to subcontracting, procurement, and supply chain management.\n\nKnowledge of supply chain management principles including strategic sourcing, supplier selection, negotiation, contract management, and supplier performance evaluation.\n\nExcellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams.\n\nStrong relationship-building and negotiation skills with the ability to manage and resolve conflicts.\n\nProven project management capability, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and monitoring multiple suppliers across projects.\n\nAbility to analyse data, identify trends, and make informed decisions based on performance metrics.\n\nStrong problem-solving skills to address issues relating to supplier performance, cost control, scheduling conflicts, and compliance.\n\nSound understanding of financial management principles including budgeting, pricing analysis, and cost control.\n\nHigh level of attention to detail when managing supplier records and compliance documentation.\n\nExperience using project management, database, and reporting software tools.\n\nProactive approach to identifying improvement opportunities, streamlining processes, and implementing best practices within the supply chain.\n\nKey Performance Indicators\n\nSuccess in this role will be measured through:\n\nAll subcontractors and suppliers meeting required compliance standards, with clear processes in place to manage non-compliance.\n\nImprovements in supplier performance including:\n\nMeeting project schedules\n\nDelivering high-quality work\n\nResponsiveness in resolving issues\n\nFulfilment of contractual obligations\n\nImproved project budget control and increased efficiency across the supply chain.\n\nTimely and accurate reporting on supplier performance, compliance status, and rate updates.\n\nPositive feedback from suppliers and subcontractors, supporting strong ongoing working relationships
